    Default Thomas Jefferson....A Prophet!!

    Jefferson quotations

Thomas Jefferson, in many regards could be called a prophet, I do believe he foresaw our age.

    1. When we get piled upon one another in large cities, as in Europe, we
shall become as corrupt as Europe . Thomas Jefferson

    2. The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not. Thomas Jefferson

    3. It is incumbent on every generation to pay its own debts as it goes. A
principle which if acted on would save one-half the wars of the world.
    Thomas Jefferson

    4. I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the
government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of
taking care of them. Thomas Jefferson

    5. My reading of history convinces me that most bad government results from too much government. Thomas Jefferson

    6. No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms. Thomas Jefferson

    7. The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear
arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in
    government. Thomas Jefferson

    8. The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood
of patriots and tyrants. Thomas Jefferson

    9. To compel a man to subsidize with his taxes the propagation of ideas
which he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical. Thomas Jefferson

And finally, a Very Interesting Quote :

In light of the present financial crisis, it's interesting to read what
    Thomas Jefferson said in 1802:

'I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties
than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to
control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation,
the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the
    continent their fathers conquered.'

    WOW!

He knew history and he knew how people operated. Those factors haven't changed in 200 years and probably never will, and so if you are intimately familiar with those subjects, you too can predict the future. He didn't just make that shit up - it's happened before - and will surely happen again.

May I also add, "Experience hath shewn, that even under the best forms of government those entrusted with power have, in time, and by slow operations, perverted it into tyranny"... He certainly did predict our times.

I'd bet if he came back right now, he would have two things to say to us: Don't get a slave pregnant, and if you do , abortion is a good idea, at least in this case. Obama claims to have some of TJ's bloodline in him. I don't believe it because Jefferson was intelligent, honest, forthright, upstanding and moral. Obama has none of those traits. In fact the only thing Obama is would be this : O.ne B.ig A.ss M.istake A.merica

I've been trying to stay out of this thread but I can't do it any longer. Amongst the many things that TJ was is a hypocrite, liar and the father of the two party system. He backstabbed John Adams, who wanted him to be a full member of his cabinet, in order to ensure that his party would win the next election. He gave us "All men are created equal." while at the same time selling slaves to pay off bad debts yet retaining the services of an astounding amount and knocking one up multiple times. He died so deeply in debt that if he hadn't been one of the founding fathers and a former president there is a distinct possibility that he would have been jailed. Thomas Jefferson was many things but someone to look up to is not one of them. Read some of the following books:

Founding Brothers by Joseph J. Ellis
American Creation by Joseph J. Ellis
    1776 by David McCullough
    John Adams by David McCullough
The Adams-Jefferson Letters by Lester J. Cappon

There is much to be learned about Mr. Jefferson.

You are mostly correct. It is true he did die penniless and deep in debt, but this nation owes him far more than we could ever repay.
As fas as "all men created equal" you need to read that sentence 'in context'. In context it is a true statement. Allow me to explain. At the time, slaves were not considered to be 'men'. Therefore, the statement did not refer to slaves, but to free men. Hold on now, I did not say I agreed with that. I am merely saying that it was fact at the time the statement was made. Our nation has a very colorful past, and some equally colorful characters in it's past. I fear it is about toget much more colorful under Obama and Pelosi and their wrongheaded rule!
