Gift for a special Marine
An old family friend is getting up in years and I would love to make a dream come true for him. He is a former Marine. A special Marine. One of the CHOSIN FEW. You old jar heads know what that means.
He was a BAR gunner and got shot up at the Chosin Reservoir.
Are there any groups or clubs that shoot the BAR? I would consider it an honor to take him somewhere and pay whatever it took so he could shoot that awesome gun one more time before he joins his buddies that didn't get home from Chosin.

Re: Gift for a special Marine
I do NOT know of any myself, but I am sure there is someone on this site that can help you with this... I THANK you for your consideration of this person, and what you are doing is beyond simple gratitude. God Bless you AND your friend... and wishing you find what you are looking for soon....
And say THANK YOU to your friend from a vet who didnt see any ACTION ( other than the bar fights in the Med while in the Navy 65 - 69 ...LOL)

Re: Gift for a special Marine
I wish I could help you and applaud your efforts.
I am sure someone will spot the thread that knows someplace or someone you can contact.
What you describe is the Frozen Chosin, as they say.
Thank your friend for their service from us at this board.
I served in Korea 1984-86.
Ask him if he likes kimchee. You can get in some Giant Eagle stores or Oriental food markets.
Tell him "An yong ha shimnikka? Komabsumnida."
"Hello/How are you, thank you."It is you. You have all the weapons that you need. Now fight. --Sucker Punch

Howdy paul641, and welcome to the forum.
Please thank your friend for me and my family for his service.
My Father was in the Marines, in Korea, almost bought it thanks to a grenade. Got a cruise home and a long rehab in a Navy hospital.

Thank you for what you are doing for your friend. Also, Thank your friend for me and my family. Shake his hand for the sacrifice he made for OUR freedoms. I have read a lot about different wars and battles but did not hear about this one. I just spent the last hour reading about the Choisin Reservoir. I also spent some time reading the memoirs from soldiers that were there. The battles, the cold, the frostbite. The one General,Major General O.P. Smith, said it best, "Retreat? Hell, we're attacking in a different direction!" .......... I wish you well and good luck..........
