Computer hackers...
They should all effing burn. I've been on support with dell for 2+ hours now trying to get my other laptop cleaned from malware/trojans.
Thank you douchebags who have nothing better to do than sit around in your grandma's basement at 45 years old and make everyone else's life hell!!
Rotten bastards.

Re: Computer hackers...
sounds like you either need to be more careful about what you click on, or run a different browswer....or both

Re: Computer hackers...
Quit surfing porn.
While many claim to support the right, precious few support the practice.

Re: Computer hackers...
Lol.. It wasn't the midget porn, no...
But no matter how careful, or prepared you think you are, they always find a way around it. I have govt issued software and it still slipped through.
Dirty SOB's... However, the problem is resolved now.III%

Re: Computer hackers...
If you want a bit more protection that is also free I suggest downloading Firefox and a program called No-Script. I have been using both for a long time now and it's been many years since I have had any virus, spyware, malware, ect.
Firefox Download: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/personal.html
No Script: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/722
I also use AVG 8.0 Free edition should anything slip through firefox.

In my opinion, the most effective anti-virus software that you can run is the Linux kernel.
Proud friend of the Noble family.

Re: Computer hackers...
Why in god's name are you wasting your time with Dell's support to remove malware? Do yourself a favor and hang up the phone, download MalwareBytes, install it, let it update and then run a quick scan. When it's done scanning , if it finds anything let it fix the problems and reboot. With any luck that's all you need to do. However, if what you have is rather tenacious or MalwareBytes doesn't find anything, download ComboFix and run that. Do not skip MalwareBytes and go straight to ComboFix. It is more aggressive than MalwareBytes and should be used only if everything else fails.
I've used both these programs with a lot of my customers this past year and with exception of one PC, they've managed to clean up just about everything out there.
Also, if you're not running a good antivirus/antispyware program like AVG, go get the free version. Just make sure you uninstall whatever program you're running currently.
Good luck.
EDIT - I see you got it resolved. Never the less, running MalwareBytes periodically will help you stay on top of possible future infections - just make sure you update it every time you use it.Last edited by Ronin; September 23rd, 2009 at 12:06 AM.

Re: Computer hackers...
The holy trinity of anti-virus/malware and cleanup:
Avast + MalwareBytes + CCleaner
ComboFix, as someone else mentioned, is very powerful, but it's not for the faint of heart. Sometimes it is better to nuke from orbit and just re-install everything rather than spend the time to try something that invasive that may or may not destroy your windows installation anyway.
AVG is okay, but not as good as Avast. Both are free for home use.

Re: Computer hackers...
I work in IT, and spent a good amount of time removing daddy's porn infections from PCs when I worked at best buy so nothing really surprises me anymore. I personally haven't had a virus or spyware infection in years (until last week). I run "safe" browsers, have two separate antiviruses running (one active all the time, one better suited for deep scanning) and I also run a cocktail of anti malware apps (spybot, adaware, spysweeper, malwarebytes) and then some general maintenance apps like ccleaner.
Apparently one got on the company network last week somehow (we have strict av, and acl's security etc) and it was smart enough to repartition the drive, hide itself in a small 1 or 2mb partition (almost like dells recovery space or the 8mb space that's set up on some drives with "nothing" in it)..so even if you formatted it would still be there somehow. I was honest to God impressed.
Moral of the story, even if you're careful and safe you can still get a girl pregnant. I mean, get a computer virus.
Same concept really.
