Default Smith Wanted: pivot pin detent hole drill

I have someone local to do the barrel threading on my AR.

Now I need someone else to drill the hole into the reciever needed for the pivot pin detent, and the detent spring. Its an inch long 3/32" hole into the "Fence" on the magazine well.

I have the parts needed for the job, I only need the service of drilling the hole.

If you can do this, and will not require a FFL for shipping (not required if within PA) let me know how much you are asking for, and a turn around time.

If I cant find anyone to do it, I'll be attempting it myself.

    Thanks!

Wow. I sincerely applaud your courage.

Why do you want to *militarize* your lower receiver?

    Thank you

I'm not sure. It kinda broke my heart when I brought the AR home for the first time, and my room-mate (ex-mil) grabed it and began his tear-down sequence. He got stuck when he realized he needed a screw driver. It just did not compute for him.

So-I want to make it so that there are no (well, as few as possible) tools to disassemble it.

Do you suggest that I not *militarize* it?

That is some serious *surgery*, especially for a DIY job.

I have two lowers with that feature and several others without. I have never had cause to *quickly* separate an upper from a lower.

In my experience it's been a non issue.

I think it'd just be something different and nice. I'm pretty confident that I can handle doing it myself. I have access to a mill, and I would "practice" a few times on an Al block.

That is unless someone can do it for me-but thats not looking likely

err...its not 'militarizing" the lower, lets say "standardizing"

the standard is front and rear pushpins for everybody BUT colt.

Colts are the only maker around that have messed with the design to such an extent as to make it difficult to field strip the gun, not to mention get replacement parts for the FCG.

I can't suggest a local gunsmith for him, I dont know his area.
frankly, with the tools i have I dont know if i'd try this myself, even tho i have a drill press.
it's a simple procedure if you have the press, and clamps, and such.

Yup. And if I could, I'd put in smaller trigger and hammer pins too.

I decided I'm doing it myself. I've got the receiver stripped. I will make a 2x4 clamp for it tomorrow. Then I just have to wait for the pins to come in on monday. Wednesday, I'll report back on how the drilling went. Or maybe I'll post a "WTB: Colt lower" thread

...but I have a colt, and I want to keep it that way.

The worst part is this: suppose I shoot a drill bit out the side of my magazine well. I'll do whatever it takes, and spend however much I need to to get another Colt lower.

    Then I'll try again.

But.....CMT makes both Stag and Colt lowers.......so it would still be the same....save for the rollmark and the extra $200.
