A very broad question and very subjective but here goes. In personal experience for fit, finnish, and accuracy my choices would be the Mauser Banner Model and the CZ24.I've had them both in unissued condition and fired them they are extreamly well made.

thanks i guess my question is too broad. maybe i should ask about a specific model instead of all the models.

Been forever since I been into Mausers, but IIRC, everyone like the Czech Brno VZ24 as a good substitue for a German 98K.

If you already own 2 8mms, go for a Swede in 6.5mm. I'm pleased with mine, right now ammo is no harder to find than 8mm.

The Russian Mausers are just captured German 98k's that they put their laquer finish on. A Yugo M48 is nearly the same rifle as a 98k if thats what you're looking for.

It was a 98k with a telescopic sight. All the K98s I shot were very accurate. I'm not a 98 expert by any means, but the biggest difference between sniper 98s and regular issue 98s was the presence (or absence) of a telescopic sight. Also, many 98s had ZF41 scopes which we would call Long Eye Relief scopes.

Here's a ZF-41 from a wartime photo, note how small the scope is in comparison to the rifle.

Here's the rifle your referring to, I think it was called the turret mount type:

    Originals sell for thousands.
Gloria: "65 percent of the people murdered in the last 10 years were killed by hand guns"
Archie Bunker: "would it make you feel better, little girl, if they was pushed outta windows?"
