Default Wife was in car accident...

    SHE'S OK !!!! FIRST OFF!!

She's coming home from work at 3am, the road she says was a little wet and she lost traction and slammed head on into a large boulder (placed to protect property). That then caused her to spin around and slam again into another rock with the back end!!

Now, the Explorer's passenger wheel sticks out on an angle when the drivers wheel is straight and the rim is missing some metal BUT it still got her home!!!

AND OF ALL NIGHTS TO FORGET HER PHONE!!!

Anyway...HERE WE GO!!! with the insurance company! We have to wait til Friday for them to come out but they have already got her a rental waiting.

    Glad shes ok.

The bosses wife was once driving a two door explorer. She managed to flip it three times. When she recomposed herself she drove it home. She later tells me that I should get rid of my explorer.

I tell her that any vehicle that you can flip then drive home is a keeper.

Glad she's OK. You can always repair and/or replace stuff. People...not so much.

    I'll agree with that.

Now that its daylight and I could get a better look at the damage, its not good! The front bumper is pushed back into the radiator, the front end seems to be pushed from left to right. The left rear 1/4 will have to be replaced from the pillar back. It will need a new tailgate, new inside rear panels and a new front rim and tire! And I just put those tires on there last week!
In reality, I think that being a 97 Explorer the insurance company just might total it..

    On that note:

Should they total it what would be the best thing to do, buy it back and fix it or just buy a new/used vehicle?

Can you tell, we've never had an accident before. So I have never worked with an insurance company and have no idea what to expect. So far, they have been good but its only been a few hours.

If the front end seems to be pushed sideways then the frame may be bent and if so, now you're talking a lot more work and cost. That with the other stuff you described, if they total it, me personally, I'd start looking for a replacement.
