This may upset some folks but if you could save up another 100 or 200 dollars more, get yourself a DPMS or Stag steup. Olympic Arms tend to be a hit or miss. I gave them the benefit of doubt and got burned. Chamber was not finished and was rough. Every type of brass ammo would not eject, yet this same ammo cycled in everyone else's AR. Factory told me it would take a few hundred rds to break-in. Yeah right, my friend's Colt and DPMS never skipped a beat ever.

YMMV but I would scrimp and save a little more for that extra piece of mind.

Oly Arms is decent for a plinker, even then it may be hit or miss. I would not count on them for anything beyond that. Saving up for a Stag though would be your best bet.

+1 for spending the extra $100 and getting the Stag. I have 2 Stag Arms and I love them both.

i say build what you want and spend 700. there are plenty of people and rescources on here for you to have help in person if needed. you could end up spending less and have a better rifle.

its easy as pie to build one, and i have helped people who have never touched tools at all.

wait a couple months and you'll find stag and colts for $700

The fall gun shows are going to be a buyers dream.

Don't forget the Classified section here. I remember seeing some decent AR deals recently.

Never heard anything good about Olympics/Hesse/Vulcan.But you get what you pay for. Look around for someone selling a Colt or Bushmaster that they had to have and never shot. I think the big panic buying frenzy is over. Prices are starting to drop on everything. Price of ammo has come down some too.

I don't think you'll see NIB Colt defense AR's for $700, ever. Unless Colt figures out how to cut their costs of production down a hell of a lot.

I can believe Hesse and Vulcan, but Oly is probably the second oldest commercial-to-the-public AR mfg on the planet. As in - they build everything but the plastic bits.

Just where did you "hear" this about Oly? Same old tired shiit on the 'net repeated over and over until it becomes true?

Must be true if ya read it on the net...

And to the OP - go handle an Oly and a DPMS and Bushy and everything else you can find on the dealer's rack and have a come to Jesus mtg with your wallet and decide for yourself. You might be surprised.
