Default Flat top upper without dust cover and f/a?

What are everyone's opinions on flat top upper receivers with no dustcover or forward assist?

I've not personally used the forward assist on my AR ever. If I run into a stoppage or jam situation I'd just pull the charging handle back and try again with a new round.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Im thinking of taking my A1 upper off my carbine and mating it up with a surplus 20" barrel and then sticking my 16" barrel onto a flat top and then add a buis and some sort of red dot (likely eotech or aimpoint).

I've never used my forward assist either, but why would you not want a dust cover?

pic isnt necessarily needed...picture an upper without a forward assist or a dustcover...

stripped uppers are like this, you can run them without those parts

but here's the specific one I was looking at:

I like mine. I feel the same way about forward assist, I would rather chamber a new round. Dust cover, sure it would be useful, but not needed in my area of operations(shooting range).

    Is it five o'clock yet?

Lack of forawrd assist? Who cares. Go marching through the woods off the beaten path with it. And well, check it good before you pull that trigger. I accumulated a good deal of misc leaf, and twig shrapnel sticking to the edge of the bolt in a 20 minute hike.

Dust cover = necessity for anything but a range queen. I really wish mine had it now.
I have the DPMS sportical ^ he has. If you are after a feather weight gun, this thing is exactly that. But like a gutted drag car without an interior. Yeah its light, but, I wouldn't want to sit in traffic with it. (Or hike through brush with it)

    I wouldn't want a gun without either.

If you do a chamber check over a loaded mag...and pull back to see brass.....you'll want to slap that forward assist back up. Are there other ways to check your chamber? Yes...do i want to give this option up? No.

Dust covers....if you ever end up needing to take a walk with it, they're good to have. Keep your gun wet, and keep crap out of it.

That said, shooting groups on the range...most people will never see the utility of either item.

i like them. they are clean looking. i want one on my pistol.

on a rifle, that as stated before see's only the range, i wouldnt mind. but one for function i would want the dust cover. the FA is a wast in my eyes. i have never used one, even on the MC Rifle range...

But without a forward assist you can no longer perform SPORTS, and SPORS just doesn't sound right.

Honestly yes one can do without forward assist, my buddy made a slickside CAR-15 clone and he has no problem with it. I however would not be comfortable without a bolt cover. The idea of leaving the guts of my weapon exposed just does not appeal to me.
