Police: Bullet explodes in woman’s handbag while she shops at home improvement store

A shopper at Lowe's, 701 N. Loyalsock Ave., Montoursville, had to take a trip to the hospital on Sunday afternoon, following a freak accident in which a bullet apparently exploded in her purse as she was in the store, according to Montoursville Deputy Police Chief Jason Bentley.

I call BS...bullets don't contain any explosives. Now a cartridge exploding I can see.

This reminds me of an incident that took place right after our arrival in Baghdad. An Iraqi contacted the news media claiming bullets were fired into her house. The photo the media carried showed an elderly Iraqi woman holding two 5.56 rounds (complete with the shiny brass cases still attached).

Bottom line.... there is more to the story about the woman in Lowes. A loose round in a purse doesn't go off without a whole lot of help.

On second thought I am calling bullshit on her story. How can the case manage to exit her purse but the bullet doesn't? She wants me to believe the flat base of the case penetrated her purse with enough velocity for an injury but the actual bullet didn't go anywhere.

Like I said in previous post... there is more to the story. I am not buying this version.

Government mind control microwave beams must have been focused on her bag causing the bullet to explode.

She should have lined the bag with tin foil.

In the Mythbusters episode where the threw a bunch of cartridges into a fire and put some in the oven, they showed how the case (being lighter than the bullet) is what becomes the projectile in an open area. In an oven, the bullet just dropped straight to the ground, and the casing flew with quite a bit of force, but not enough that they thought it could be lethal, even on a .50 cal round.

Then she'd be arrested for constructive intent to steal items tagged with RFID.

Bullet wouldnt go anywhere as there isnt a barrel/chamber to help build up the pressure needed to propel the round.

When a primer is ignited, the powder in the cartridge ignites, building up pressure. The brass is able to contain the pressure as the chamber walls contain the brass shell from and the bullet (a cork if you will) is expelled out of the barrel.

If a round is ignited outside the confines of a chamber, the pressure builds up and expands the brass shell, which cannot contain the expansion and explodes. The bullet itself now does not have the pressure behind it, and so is not propelled by the gunpowder and drops close to the source of the combustion.
    Hold the Line...
