    Harry Schneider comments on reality

Contrast the Israeli vs the American way of dealing with School Shooters.

In Israel, terrorists recently entered yet another school with the intent of
killing. Once again they were engaged by armed faculty members and killed.

In the United States, our schools are "gun free zones" because naive policy
makers believe that those bent on homicide will obey cute little "gun free
zone" signs and slogans like "guns don't belong in schools". Another
example of American naïveté is exposed when we see what happened to the
juveniles who committed mass murder at a school in Jonesboro Arkansas.

"Johnson was 13 when he and an 11-year-old classmate, Andrew Golden, killed
four girls and a teacher at Jonesboro Westside Middle School on March 24,
1998. Ten others were injured in the shooting.

Johnson was released from federal custody when he turned 21 in 2005. He
walked out of jail with no criminal record...Johnson and Justin Trammell
were supposedly headed for California to make a new start when they were
pulled over for a minor traffic violation. Police were watching Johnson
because they'd gotten an anonymous tip he had 100 pounds of marijuana and
several guns...Trammell was driving Johnson's van the night they were
stopped. Trammell, 22, was convicted at age 15 in Benton County of murdering
    his father with a crossbow."

While the media chose to protect the public from the facts, on at least
three occasions, the death toll in American school shootings was greatly
reduced because armed citizens intervened: Pearl Mississippi, Edinboro
Pennsylvania and the Appalachian Law School in Virginia. A properly trained
armed citizen would have made a big difference in other instances, but "gun
free zone" policies prevented them from helping. There has been much
debate about the culpability of VA Tech University officials who lobbied
against a change in state law that would have reversed their Pollyanna like
policy that contributed to the death toll.

If Colorado law had made churches into "gun free zones". the death toll
would likely have been in the dozens, likely exceeding the VA Tech death
toll. Instead, an armed parishioner used her gun and training to save
dozens of lives. The media tried to downplay this by calling her a
"security guard". When policy makers have Pollyanna like views of the
world, the policies that they create with "feel good" legislation costs
lives. This is true of "gun free zone" policies and policies that release
    juvenile mass murderers.

Great post. I always say that we would not think of transporting $1 million in cash without armed guard, but we put our children in the hands of unarmed, untrained teachers every day. It makes no sense to me. At the very least, there should be armed security in every school.
