Default When I was a kid

A friend had a rather short bolt action .22 with a fold down fore grip. The front few inches of the fore grip were black bakelite (ish) plastic that lived along the barrel and dropped down to form a monopod.
Any idea what kind it as?
OK, so we are talking 45 years ago.

    Ken

Sounds like a Mossberg 140 type rifle.

Mossberg is right. I had one of them 40 some years ago and it was a good shooter.
