Default AK side mount on SKS

How does one do this without butchering the rifle?

Choate scope mount drills and taps into to side of the receiver like that. If you are going to put a scope on an SKS, it's the only 1 sure way to keep a scope zeroed. All others eventually tick you off because they move.

I have a couple if anyone wants to buy one. $40 shipped.

I wouldnt mind setting one up that way but the only SKS I have has a bit too much sentimental value for me to want to change it. Good thing the Yugo ones are still available.

Yeah, I have three Yugos. The first one I got was in excellent shape and it will stay original. I got two from Century which had beat up stocks so I stripped, sanded, filled and I'm painting with Aluma Hyde. I'm putting the Choate mounts on those two rifles. The Aluma Hyde is very good epoxy and I love the color. I have one treatment on them now and they look nice. I have to sand them again and put on a 2nd treatment before I hit it with a final treatment of Aluma Hyde flat clear. So far they have come out the same color as an AR.

I commented on the paint because that SKS in your pic looks like somone hit it with generic spray paint. Blah!

I googled SKS SNIPER and that came up with the pics. I would put a little more effort into the finish personally. Even a good coat of black Duracoat would work fine for me. You'll have to send pics of the ones your doing. Id like to see how they turn out and maybe I'll be able to talk you into selling me one of them in the future.
