    Default The Term "Kit Gun?"

    What does it mean?

I feel kind of stupid asking. I mean, I remember the old CVA blackpowder guns... which were actually "kits" in so much as they come unassembled. I'm curious regarding the term as used by S&W or other manufacturers, typically in reference to a 22lr revolver. Can anyone resolve this one for me? Thanks.

S&W "Kit gun" was a reference to an essential item in your hunting/fishing/outdoors "kit"

So, not a gun from a kit, but rather a gun for a kit. To be perfectly honest, that's pretty much what I had suspected... and thank you so much for the confirmation.

By the way, good luck with that "other" thing.

S&W's Kit gun was a .22 RF revolver built on a small frame with a 4" barrel and adjustable sights. A nice thing to have along in the woods.
They are collectable now, and are pretty expensive.
Charter Arms makes a nice little .22 revolver they call the Pathfinder that would be a good substitute.
