Remington 710 Opinions?
I still need a high powered rifle for deer and groundhogs...I am thinking about a Remington 710 in 7mm mag...good name, low cost and comes complete with a Bushnell bore sighted scope! Anybody have any experience with this rifle? Keep in mind that I am not an avid hunter...I may only hunt deer 3-4 days per year. I do plink groundhogs a little more often! But I want a magnum round for versatility...

Re: Remington 710 Opinions?
The 710 is garbage IMHO.
If you want a Remington, buy the 700 SPS or a used model 700 ADL.
Savage rifles are often cheaper than Remington, and shoot just as well if not better. The Savage just isnt quite as nice to look at. Savage rifles often come with scopes as a package deal.
7mm rem mag for groundhogs?? Good God, do they just give up when they see you pull in?
I'd think about switching to the .308 win. round for groundhogs and deer. You can shoot premium rounds for deer, and cheap military ammo for hoggies. Plus it kicks a lot less, and will take down about any animal in North America.

Haha...I like to vaporize my target! All you see is a puff of gray "matter" when you connect with a head shot! The 7mm mag is a beautiful thing! LOL
I am intrigued by the 710...I fondled one the other day and it felt good. Price is good ($249.00) I still want a Ruger M77 Hawkeye...but my funds are running low. I need a cheap shooter. I did have a M77 on order, but the shop couldn't find one, so I canceled and picked up the PT1911.

Re: Remington 710 Opinions?
Traded my son for a 710 .30-06 he won in a raffle. I have had better rifles and also have had worse. The only thing that concerns me is that the plactic clip rattles a little bit when inserted. Anyone else have this trouble? The 710 is definately not a Model 700.

Dont waste money on a 710.
If you must have a rifle like that, buy the newer 770 rifle from Remington. I know nothing about this new rifle other than it is an updated version of the 710. They supposedly fixed many of the problems that the 710 had.
After looking inside a 710 years ago....I was convinced that I would rather have a NEF single shot for a low dollar rifle. The 710 was junk.
The older 700 ADL and the newer 700 SPS are wonderful rifles built on the PROVEN 700 action. For a few more dollars, there is no comparison.

Re: Remington 710 Opinions?
H&R would be a much better choice compared to the 710. The Stevens would cost less than the 710 and you will have an accurate rifle. The scope on those package deals will run you $30, so don't think it's such a great deal when buying a low end "package deal."

Re: Remington 710 Opinions?
I love my Rem 710 in 30-06. I have had it for 4 years. It is very accurate. I bought it to start practicing with a long rifle. It was a very economical choice for a first bolt-action. I have since acquired a Remington 700 and a Weatherby Vanguard. I think both are better made.

Re: Remington 710 Opinions?
I haven't shot the 710 but did handle a few. Their actions seem "stamped" rather than milled and quite crude. All the tests I have seen on them rank them pretty low for accuracy-not a quality one would desire in a chuck gun. For accuracy on a budget look for a Savage or Stevens bolt gun or an H&R/NEF single shot as Aub mentioned. I feel either of these will serve you MUCH better and actually rank pretty high in the overall accuracy rankings.
Guns are good.
