My First AR15 Build (Junior)
Hey everyone!
first off id like to say thanks to everyone thats helping accomplish this dream i had to build my own AR15 rifle. Big Dog suggested on my other post to make a thread that says Ar15 Build to help get some other people that may be able to lend some advice or even better some parts. I went to the gun shop and was looking at Ar15's and liked what i was shown but the only thing that prevented me from buying one was the price, theres no way id be able to spend $1000+ on a rifle thats wayyy out of my budget. so i came to the forums to see if anyone would be able to point me to a place where i can get one or make one for under $500. i know it may be a little bit farfetched but hey anythings possible.
Thanks! happy shooting.Last edited by BandanaBandit1; December 5th, 2011 at 10:49 PM.

You still have not told us what type competition you'll be shooting in. It makes a difference for the parts that you'll use. If it's CMP, you'll want a 20" government profile A2 upper. If it's something else, you might want a 16" flat top upper so you can later add an optic of some type.

i was thinking to get into general steel shooting competitions, nothing special, just for general plinking/steel shooting.

Carbine or rifle? Bench, carbine or 3 position comp? A consideration might be to go with a complete 22LR upper so you can shoot a bunch on the cheap and then later on get a 5.56 upper after you have honed your skills. I wouldn't recommend a 22LR conversion to be used on a 5.56 barrel.
The cost for the upper would definitely be worth it just in the savings on ammo!
Keep the conversation going guys so we all can learn! The original point and click interface was a Colt Peacemaker!

CMMG has their bargain bin rifles back for 600.

You would still need to buy a rear sight or an optic and a mag or two.
Good luck!
