Default Newest addition to my WWII collection....

I know most of ya don't care anything other then AR or Ak's, but for those who likes antique axis weapon..

Its Series 1 Arisaka Type 99 with infamous monopod, and airplane sight!
Unfortunatly, its not much of collector(wood has been redone, safety knob number is not maching, and mum is gone), but looks nice, and with shinny bore, its good shooter! And was cheap($200)

This airplane sight, I guess in theory, you can accurately calculate amount of distance you need to lead the target depending on the speed of plane, and put a round on plane, but in practice, it must not worked, because it was first thing that was removed from production gun...

Monopod....I guess when your prone position, and upper body slightly raised, this would work... Again, must not effective, as it was removed from subsequent production run...

    Next to my other Arisaka's...
Right most is early(1906 manufactured, Nagoya arsonal) Type 38, later converted to Type 38 short rifle by Tokyo Gas&Electric in 1939. Super rare. My pride and joy.
Middle is mid(seriese 21 Kokure arsonal stamped, made by Mazda) type 99 with all muching numbers with intact mum. Its a battle field pick up, and condition shows it. Please disregard the gheyass camo sling...

hey I care! An Arisaka is on my list but I haven't made up my mind on whether I need a mum or not. I'm thinking not for a shooter. I do love how the Japs accessorised the T99. There is no way you could shoot prone with the monopod. Although they were so short, all they would have to do is kinda bend over.

    Thanks for sharing.

I'm a WWII collector as well. Nice add to the collection. I'll post pics of mine if I can ever take decent ones.

postive rep for coming out and saying that. i've often thought it but never typed it.

i'm down with the pre-veitnam era ordnance. but i can't seem to get into the japanese stuff. trucks, hell yeah but their weapons just don't do it for me.
local shop had a something or other hanging on the wall. i was thinking about it, but now i think some body put their name on it.

That's awesome, even w/o matching numbers and such.

    Nothing like wood and steel.
Enjoy your "new" rifle, and thanks for the pics!

Arisaka was first firearm I've ever bought with my own money back in days when minimum wage was $4.25.
I bought above mentioned Type 38, thinking its carbine, for $125.
I've always liked Japanese firsarms, as Japanese can no longer own a gun over there.
And I've always attracted to their "odd" feature, like airplane sight, and monopod - Interesting, yet, totally useless in combat.
And if you ever find some of their earlier weapons, they - oddness aside - were very well made weapon

I'm still looking for few others, like Type 44, Nambu 14, Nambu 94...

My aim is to collect battle rifles from all countries involved with WWII. Some folks focus on one country, one power, etc. It's nice to have different perspectives. In collecting there no single perspective. All angles require you to dig into other areas for knowledge so it's fascinating.

Sometimes you can cheat a little by counting the Mosin Nagain 91/30 for China and the Enfield for Australia so you save a little cash.

Hmm, while it is known that the No. 4 MKI was used by Great Britain and the Commonwealth (therefore it would be correct to lump Australia in there), I've never heard much about China using 91/30s.

I mean, it would make sense (since they were both Allies and they were next door), but I've never heard of, nor seen in any of my readings about Chinese use of them. Otherwise, I think there would be Chinese marked 91/30s for the collectors world. China was in chaos then fighting a civil war between Nationalist forces and Communist upstarts as well as Japanese aggressors, so naturally, they used any firearm they could get their hands on. One of the most obvious being captured Japanese rifles where they marked it as such on the stocks.

So what I'm getting at is I think the USSR would have marked their rifles in some way indicating that a batch of 91/30s were for Chinese use, or that the Chinese would have marked them in some way upon receipt of them. They did this with Broomhandle Mauser pistols they received under contract from Germany (pre WWII) and again when they started producing their own variants with something like "German design Chinese made" or some such on the weapon.

Rifles that I did know they used during WWII are Mauser rifle variants they called the Hangyang rifle, and the Chiang Kai Shek models. They were also supposedly to use Czech made rifles (vz 24s) before they were confiscated by the IJN (Imperial Japanese Navy) and used by them.

I think Chinese used/made weapons of WWII are the hardest to collect, since they are almost always going to be in near completely destroyed condition. My brother has a few Chinese Mausers, and they are all in "been through WWII and never maintained" condition.

Pector, why stop at the rifles? I am trying to collect all firearms used by as many countries as possible in WWII. Sidearms will be a very fun and expensive area, but it's gotta be done.

The exceptions being machineguns and SMGs obviously due to our laws and the price increase due to their illegality.
