.45 +P
Looking for some advise on wether or not it is ok to shoot .45 +P from my MIL-SPEC 1911.
I thought that I had read a article somewhere that said you could shoot +P rounds from a standard 1911, as long as it was not all the time.
Any advise would be appreciated.

Re: .45 +P
I wouldn't. But I would call the manufacture of your 1911 and ask.
I figure if I want to shoot 45+p, I'll get gun chambered for 45 long colt...

What Mil spec? Springfield?...when was the gun manufactured?
I taught Chuck Norris to bump-fire.

Re: .45 +P
It is a Charles Daly, I would guess manufactured in the early 2000s. I bought this gun used, so I am not 100% sure the year of manufacture. I guess you could say it is a little above a MIL-SPEC, it does have a upgraded trigger and hammer, as well as what to appears to be a heavy barrel. So sorry if I confused you by saying it was a MILSPEC, I wasn't thinking.

I know that older CD 1911's were made by Armscor. Thats Rockisland right?
Call CD costomer service rep(Do not bother with e-mail. you'll never gonna get any reply).
From my experience, CD Costomer serivce rep is pretty helpful (as long as you call them that is) from my recent dealing with them for my CD HP

Re: .45 +P
Given that there's no advantage to using +P, why bother? Modern hollowpoints will expand quite nicely at standard velocities

Re: .45 +P
I carry them in my series 80 Colt that I got from John Harrison. He said he didn't have a problem with them. When I practice I either switch the mags with hardball and shoot the chambered round of +p, or shoot both mags of +p. It depends on how long they were loaded. I won't feed it a steady diet of them though.
I do wonder if they are really needed at all. I do agree with MITY2 about contacting the maker of your gun and getting their input.

Re: .45 +P
Well I'm asking because I mistakenly bought a box of Hornady .45 +P the other day. I seen .45 Auto on the box but missed the +P after that, and I hate to let it go to waste. I mainly bought it for carry but I always like to cycle any new ammo I intend to carry, and didn't want to damage my gun in the process.

Can you return it for full refund? Exchange?

Re: .45 +P
I'm not sure, I bought it at Bass Pro Shop in Harrisburg. I know that most places ammo policies are no refunds or exchanges, plus Bass Pro is about 1 hour from where I live so its really not worth running back up there to return it.
