Pro-Gun Policy Paper
Hey everyone I thought this would be a good opportunity to ask for a little help on the issue of gun control. I am writing a policy issue paper in one of my graduate classes and I am pro gun. What I am looking to do is to explain the problems which have led up to gun control becoming a hot legislative issue currently. I will also need to list the stakeholders of gun control and some alternatives to gun control. Does anyone know of any cites I can use for research? I've come across http://www.guncite.com and it's a great start. Any advice or info would be much appreciated!!!
Thanks

One place to look is the briefs for DC v. Heller, available on this site: www.gurapossessky.com/news/parker/pleadings.html
These briefs address both Constitutional interpretation and empirical evidence.

Re: Pro-Gun Policy Paper
If you're concerned mostly about the "is it good policy to have less restrictive gun laws" question, John Lott's book More Guns, Less Crime is a good place to start. He also wrote several papers, one of which with David B. Mustard is located here: http://www.terry.uga.edu/~mustard/ccw.pdf
David Mustard also wrote a paper by himself on the impact of gun laws on police deaths: http://www.terry.uga.edu/~mustard/police.pdf
(One note of caution about John Lott, he was caught, rather ridiculously, using a "sock puppet" on an internet forum to discuss his writings.
http://www.reason.com/news/show/28771.html Doesn't take away from his statistical work, but I always mention it in the interests of full disclosure.)
Also worth reading as a counterpoint is the Ayres & Donohue article disputing Lott's conclusions: http://islandia.law.yale.edu/ayers/A...ue_article.pdf
Gary Kleck, a Florida State criminologist, has written extensively on the issue. See his faculty page for a list of publications: http://www.criminology.fsu.edu/p/faculty-gary-kleck.php
If you're talking about the Constitutionality of gun control, I would definitely look at Akhil Reed Amar's writings on the subject, especially his book The Bill of Rights. In addition to Amar, here has been a lot of writing on the subject by Constitutional law scholars on the subject in the past ten years, including:
Eugene Volokh
Laurence Tribe
Sanford Levison ("The Embarrassing Second Amendment")
Any comprehensive paper would have to answer typical anti-gun arguments. Definitely check the usual suspects.
I haven't looked at it in much detail, but this website appears to have a very thorough list of sources on a variety of gun-related issues:

Good luck.

Re: Pro-Gun Policy Paper
i would also recommend researching the "international crime victims surveys". the consistently show that the violent crime rates in englad and australia (where guns are essentially banned) are significantly higher than violent crime rates in the US.
here are a couple links to get you started:
