Mystery Chamber
MERGED THREAD ABOUT SAME SUBJECT IN GUNSMITHING INTO THIS THREAD -- Noah.
This is interesting... Purchased a rifle from a deceased mans collection. Heavy barrel rifle stamped 270. Also got dies with the rifle. Long story short 270 win brass was too small to chamber, but 270 weatherby case did chamber after being sized through the die that came with the rifle. Die is labeled 270 MG. Now, after firing the weatherby brass has fireformed into a new shape... now has an angled yhroat instead of the radiused yhroat of the weatherby mag. Anyone have a clue what I have here?Last edited by Noah_Zark; July 21st, 2014 at 06:53 PM.

Re: Mystery Chambering
What brand of dies?
Are the dies labeled or did someone write on the box?
I'm going to assume it's a 270 Weatherby MaGnum that someone has possibly "improved".
You may want to have a chamber cast done, I would.
There are plenty of wildcats for the .270, hard to tell without a cast IMO from what you are describing.

Re: Mystery Chambering
Yes, that is going to be the next step getting the chamber cast.

Re: Mystery Chamber
take it to gunsmith. They can take a mold of the chamber, and let you know exactly what it is...

Re: Mystery Chamber
Probably an Ackley variant. Chamber cast it with Cerrosafe and measure what you have.
