What does it take?
Sorry for this little rant but I just can't stand it anymore.
Without going into to much detail lets just say someone I know is very good at stealing things that don't belong to her.
Opening mail not in your name with credit cards in them. Activating the cards and then running up bills in excess of $5,000
Stealing a debit card and running up bills in excess of $4,000
Stealing a wallet with over $400 in cash.
You can do all that and NEVER spend one day in jail or EVEN GET CHARGED WITH A CRIME. So now I have civil judgments against said person which will never be paid. Not even $1 will ever get paid towards them. The police really just don't give a shit at all. They act like it's not their problem.
I'm sure most of the stolen money got spent on drugs, but the cops don't care about that either.
So really what do I need to do to get some justice? I am out of ideas.

So why is said person not being charged with a crime? Identity theft? Mail fraud? I could go on.
So confused...

Re: What does it take?
Me too.
The credit card stuff is I think 9-10 months old now and nothing has been done yet.
The wallet thing happened yesterday.
So I called the police and filed reports and now I will just sit and wait another 10 months for nothing to be done.
Edit: Also a debit card was stolen out of the wallet, charged with a $100 charge then returned to the wallet to make it look like she didn't take it.

Re: What does it take?
Grand theft is indeed a criminal code violation. You are just not talking to the right people. Look up the number for your local major crimes unit, burglary/theft unit and give them an earfull politely of course.
A little gumshoe work will be able to show what was bought and where. With the proliferation of security cameras these days you are looking at an easy conviction. Simply put, correlate what was bought where and by whom, with the help of the police of course.
If not, then let bygones be bygones and restrict access to your shit.Join the groups protecting your rights from the fools trying to take them from you!

Re: What does it take?
1.) It sounds as though there were many laws broken, including federal, and should be punishable by incarceration... why nobody is helping is beyond me.
2.) If the police really aren't doing their job, and you have proof, try getting in contact with the Internal Affairs, due to incompitance, neglegance, and maybe other things being done by the police.
3.) Why are you still in contact with said person to allow them to continue stealing??III%

Re: What does it take?
A few suggestions...
Get a P.O. box for your mail so only you can access it.
Get a small safe for your home to keep things out of reach of "said person".
As others have said, keep on the cops about this.

Re: What does it take?
Not sure why nothing happens. Maybe something like proof is missing?
How come such a person even has access to your wallet, knows your debit card pin and so on?
Did you think about getting a small safe from your next home improvement store? The fire and water resistant ones come with an electronic number keypad, so said person can't even open it with a key that may be on your key chain laying around.
JanSo long and thanks for all the fish.
