New Florida CWLs... Good for 7 years now
I just received my Florida Non-Resident license this week and I noticed that the expiration is 2015. I thought it was a typo but I checked the Dept of Agriculture's website and it states that they changed the the license duration from 5 to 7 years. This only applies to licenses that are issued starting last month.

Re: New Florida CWLs... Good for 7 years now
That's good news. So now, we have to try and figure if the Utah permit is still the better bargain. As I recall, their renewal is for 5 yrs. and a lot cheaper than FL's.
FL is much easier to obtain, with even a hunter safety course accepted for training requirement. Whereas Utah requires training from their certified instructors.
Although apparently Utah is now considering making it harder to get a permit in the first place for non-res. They are trying to make it required that applicants travel to Utah for the required training. Story.
Of course just because FL didn't increase the fees right now, doesn't mean they won't increase next year or in coming years.Last edited by HiredGoon; July 4th, 2008 at 05:38 AM.

I think I'm going to go with Florida. Since I found out that a reciprocal permit does not protect you from the Gun Free Schools Act, I've been put off the idea of carrying anywhere that I don't have a local permit. I have friends in Florida but I don't have any reason to visit Utah right now, so FL wins. Good to know about the two year extension.

I went with Florida because I am an adult and can read and understand the written word.
Why, would anyone pay someone 50 plus dollars to read to them for a couple of hours, I can read/and understand it myself.

With 7-year licenses Florida will never qualify for a NICS Brady permit purchase exemption. That's a shame.

Re: New Florida CWLs... Good for 7 years now
I wonder what the current turn around is right now on FL applications to receipt of permit. They got my app on june 24th. Great news it's 7 years, now I got more "bang" for my bucks LOL. Just hope they didn't raise the fee and I get some letter requesting additional monies.
I was telling my dad about the FL permit and he joked we need to go to FL now. I mentioned that the FL lisc is accepted in VA, NC, GA, as well as FL, but not SC. Anyone have a link to the SC bill/law that was signed to include PA lisc's? Does it also include FL for a nonres of FL? My dad was making a funny about carrying at South of the Border while buying naughty fireworks, he said it was in SC.LOL, I am a woman...

After I sent in my application it took 49 days for my license to arrive in the mail.
