Semi-new to the area
I move here from Md about a year ago.I just brought a house in adams county. I have been thinking since I moved up here it is probably a good idea that I get my LTCF due to the kinda of job I have. I just wanted to know what the process is and what I need to do.

Everything you need to know is here, and there are other resources you should read, linked from this page.

The forum itself is loaded with everything you need to know. Look around and you'll be amazed! You'll find answers to most of your questions in this section of the board.

Obtaining a LTCF is pretty simple. I live in Adams county also. Go to the courthouse in Gettysburg and they have the LTCF form at the Sheriff's Office. You don't need the passport size photo because they take a photo of you once you've been approved. They sent me an approval letter that I received exactly 45 days after applying.
Your references don't have to live in PA. I gave them references for people I knew in Maryland and they never called my references.
Here's the Adams County Sheriff's Office website.

Re: Semi-new to the area
You'll need two references. Their names, address's and telephone numbers. Again, they never called the references I listed that live in Maryland.
The lady at the front desk was very friendly. The process is extremely easy and I wasn't asked any questions or interviewed. When they hand you the actual license, look it over carefully. They misspelled my last name and I didn't realize it. I went back and was given another license, free of charge.
Here's a sample LTCF form Centre County. Don't fill this one out. I posted it to give you an idea of what the form looks like.

Another thing. In the section that asks "Reason For License To Carry Firearms." I'd advise you to check the "Self Defense" box. When you get the license it'll probably read "General Use" like mine does. At least it's on record that I applied for a self defense reason.Last edited by Peddler; November 25th, 2009 at 12:06 PM.

Re: Semi-new to the area
Thanks for all the info.I am going to try to get this done this week while I am off.
I work for one of the sheriffs offices in Md in the jail.I keep seeing where alot of thiese guys also do alot of thier dirty work in Pa as well. Over the last 3 years I have been doing this job I havnt had any problems if I do see someone on the street but there is still that what if factor in the back of my mind. Since I spend most of my time in Pa it only makes sense to have my permit.
Thanks again for all the help!
