Default An idea...for a practice system

I had a thought for a training device. Not sure if it's workable...but it might be. It wouldn't be cheap though.

I have some dry fire caps for two of my firearms. While you can use them for your trigger pulling and practicing at home. I was thinking of something more.

The truth of the matter...at the range, we are often focusing on shooting accuracy. And since we use public state ranges, I believe it is illegal to draw and shoot (at least if you carry cross-draw) because you're not always pointing down range. In fact, this is probably policy in many ranges.

But I'd really like to practice drawing & firing - with accuracy feedback.

So I was thinking, wouldn't it be possible to have a dry fire cap that had a laser built into it. You'd pull the trigger and it would light the target. However, this would be very brief...which would probably be very hard to judge. And if you simply left it on would be pretty useless.

But I also have seen papers and stuff that reacts to light. Think of glow in the dark material and how blacklights seem to hyper glow them.

Not sure if there are any small blacklight lasers available. Or whether there might be a better material or option. But I was thinking....you'd buy the target. Hang it on your wall. Practice drawing and dry-firing and the target would show how well you were placing. While such a system wouldn't be cheap... in the long run it might save a lot on the cost of ammo.

Just a far-fetched idea...probably not feasible at the moment. But who knows, it might already exist.

the MILES gear that the military uses for war games is outdated crap. If you have a finished basement it could mask the noise enough for you to use simuniton, we trained with that stuff in a MOUT setting, let me tell you that shiat hurts from a few feet away(they told us not to but...) but it doesn't get much more realistic than that. You can but barrels and uppers that are designed to fire only these, and they'll fire the paint marker rounds or the indoor shoot round but won't chamber a real bullet.

Internet store has been down for a while, and it doesn't look like the website's been updated recently, but there is a phone number.

You may find the following similar to your desired design ...

    As reviewed by Mas Ayoob

A fellow firearms enthusiast who shoots competitively has the unit set up in his basement, seems useful and affective. Single user version price point when purchased a couple of years ago was stated to be $349.00.

    ... hope this helps ...

I saw a thread somwhere where a guy took an AIRSOFT Glock and put the beam hit device in it and made a dedicated training gun. I believe it even had "re-strike" capability so you didn't have to cock it each time.

    Maybe on glocktalk.com?

looks like Model A (which is the outside barrel laser) is 350, Model B which is the internal laser is 550
The first vehicles normally on the scene of a crime are ambulances and police cruisers. If you are armed you have a chance to decide who gets transported in which vehicle, if you are not armed then that decision is made for you.

Be prepared, because someone else already is and no one knows their intent except them.
