Gun Smithing Info
I'm interested in knowing about principles of operations when it comes to firearms.
I don't know how better to explain what I am looking for than using a car analogy; I'm not interested in learning about the makes or models of cars (that info is easily available), I want to understand how the engine works and the different types.
For example, striker fired pistols as opposed to hammer operated pistols, etc.
Anyone know of any good sites and/or books?
Thanks in advance!

Check with the American Gunsmithing Institute, they have a lot of different books and videos that will teach you a lot of different things. Also, Brownells, has a good collection of different books that may help you out.

Not sure exactly what you're looking for but here are some links to some gun animations. They show the guns in action and you can make parts of the gun transparent by clicking on the little boxes or by moving your mouse over the gun or list of parts. This way you can see what each part does in a functioning gun.

Re: Gun Smithing Info
Unfortunately learning about the different models is intrinsic with understanding how they work. While it isn't necessary to learn about decoration, finish and ornamentation, it is relevant to learn about how form follows function.
Consider browsing your local book store (B&N, Borders, etc), same. Bear in mind that high end shotgun mods & fixes will be very different than servicing & repairing handguns.Gloria: "65 percent of the people murdered in the last 10 years were killed by hand guns"
Archie Bunker: "would it make you feel better, little girl, if they was pushed outta windows?"
