No Casino Gettysburg....
Hey guys....here is a group of people I've been trying to show support for because I think it is a discrase to build a casino on the edge of the battlefiled. What is the edge of the battlefield today, was not the edge back then.

Here is a letter I sent to my local and state reps along with the PA Gaming Board:
"2006/10/18
Dear Gaming Boardmembers:
Anyone who supports a casino in Gettysburg should call not call
themself an American. I am sure all you have seen the condition
of streets only a block away from the boardwalks or casinos. You
are immedately thrown into a scene of scum and crime. Do not let
this happen to Gettysburg! That is the most important city of
our American heritage. Do not let them build a casino on the
backs of dead Americans. I am completely amazed at the lack of
respect for our heritage......I cannot believe that this
proposal was even entertained. Anyone involved should forfit
their US citizenship. I cannot express strongly enough what a
discrase this would be to American heritage. If you consider
yourself to be an American then oppose this casino. Let the rest
of the towns in PA go into the crapper with casinos but save
Gettysburg!
Also I hear you can buy the support of the local government out
there in Gettysburg for the right price. Those officials should
be investigated and impeached for accpeting a bribe. Will you do
anything about it? ...or...maybe...They also found YOUR price?
Sincerely,

Gunrunner,
I agree!! My Wife and I travel to Gettysburg every summer for a little vacation,I can't see myself going there anymore if there is a Casino built on the edge of the Battlefield!!
It is a total lack of Respect for the men who fought and died on this same land!!

Re: No Casino Gettysburg....
The proposed location of the Gettysburg SLOTS PARLOR is no where near ANY of the battlefield attractions.
Furthermore, it is a SLOTS PARLOR, not a casino. There will be no professional gamblers (as has been stated as a concern in the Gettysburg Times letters to the editor). It is an arcade for adults. Once the hype dies down, the only places that will suffer will be the local bingo nights, because it will be all blue-haired ladies and the rich Gettysburg College kids spending daddy's money.

Wow, never thought someone would be in favor of a "Slots Parlor", if thats what you want to call it in Gettysburg, I honestly dont think Gettysburg needs it ANYWHERE! Battlefield or not. I take it you will be getting a job there when it opens?

Re: No Casino Gettysburg....
Nope, no job. I did think about it for a minute, but I don't think anything there would pay as well as what I do. I simply don't have a problem with it. It doesn't matter either way to me if they build it. I get irrate when the locals that are against it, give BS reasons for it. Always stating things about increased violent crime, degenerate professional gamblers, comparing it to the Vegas strip. It's rediculous.
Just like the anti-gunners saying "assault weapon" and "machine gun" everytime a guy uses anything but pappy's hunting rifle to rob a 7-11.
Or the one local newspaper ALWAYS bringing up that the motorcyclist involved in the crash wasn't wearing a helmet or wasn't wearing a full-face helmet, even though the lady in the SUV that was too busy, handing her 2 year old a sippy cup, to stay in her own lane, and hit the bike head-on. Mean while the fact that the lady was not wearing her seatbelt, was glossed over.
When the people that are AGAINST start spouting BS to prove their point, I start to feel like I am FOR. [/rant]

Re: No Casino Gettysburg....
Well, I am against it, I'm not a local but I have been there enough to know the Gettysburg is not the place for a Slot Parlor. My only reason for being against is this..No one can stop progress, but where in Gettysburg will the progress stop?
Before you know it, these same people will want a piece of land near a battlefield for something else, their reason will be..
"Well, nothing really happen on this 1 acre, lets build this...then a few years down the road.."Oh, well nothing really happen here either so lets take this small patch of land" and before you know it, you will have battlefields surrounded by Buildings,Condos, etc.
The reason I take my wife to Gettysburg is to get away from the city,I enjoy the small town feeling, I just want my young children to enjoy Gettysburg the way it is now, open fields, miles of wooden fences, old stone homes...I dont want Gettysburg to end up like the Historical District in Philadelphia!! Which I feel this Slot Parlor might be the begining of...But hey, whom am I huh?

Re: No Casino Gettysburg....
I grew up in Gettysburg and my parents still live there. I have seen Gettysburg explode with development along route 30 in the past decade.
Morally, I don't have a problem with gambling. Building a slots parlor in that location isn't any more of a desecration of the battlefield than building a huge movie theater (which was just done), or a hotel, a Sheetz, etc, etc.
I do think other factors need to be taken into consideration in granting a license. If I were on the gaming board, I would deny them solely on the fact that route 30 and the town of Gettysburg cannot handle the increase in traffic. If David Levan and his investors at Goldman Sachs want to fund the transformation of route 30 into a four lane highway, then I might reconsider.
There are plenty of other suitable locations in PA for this type of business.Last edited by greyhouse; December 14th, 2006 at 04:37 PM.
