Default LWRC M6A2 vs Colt 6933

I decided to buy a Colt 6933 through Clyde's...but then I started looking at the LWRC M6A2 in a 10.5" SBR. Piston for $2400 vs DI for $1500. Totally different rifles, I know. I plan on buying a silencer to use with this SBR. I have no experience with piston rifles, and very little with DI for that matter. From what I've read on various online sites it seems that the piston guns are better for using as a SBR or with a silencer. I figured that the additional cost for the piston would make shooting a suppressed SBR more enjoyable and easier to clean. That was my understanding of the DI v piston debate, until I read this....

After seeing his face and just how dirty the rifle was after only 350 rounds I'm not so sure that the LWRC is worth the extra $$. Should I expect the 6933, and my face, to look even worse than the pictures of that LWRC?? If you still get gas in the face and a very dirty rifle after a few hundred rounds, what's the advantage to a piston system over the DI?

The LWRC is set-up how I would like with the handguards, stock, grip, trigger guard, MBUS. By the time I change these items on the Colt 6933, the end price is closer to $1900, so the actual price difference would be $1900 vs. $2400. That is still a $500 difference, is it really worth it?

Ah yeah your face with a DI version will look a lot worst than that especially with a supressor!

I have a friend, no really I DO...anyway he has a LWRC. He's shot a couple hundred rounds through his without a suppressor and his face looked nothing like that. Plus his bolt was clean as a whistle.

The most I've shot in one session through my 11.5" DI upper w/ Gemtech suppressor is between 150 and 200 rounds on full auto. There were no marks on my face and the gun did not look like that. My buddy once said he got a shot of smoke in the eye but I've never noticed that myself.

I do get all kinds of crap in the face from the M11 suppressed.

I'll give you some real world advice and back up ungawa.

Go with the Colt. I run a colt 6933 with a tac-16 can. I bought a gas buster charging handle for it and it all but makes the gas issue non existent. I do get a little carbon build up on the bolt after a few hundred (3) rounds. I like to keep my bolt / carrier wet when i shoot but even so it still gets a little extra carbon on it. It looks nothing like the pics in that thread.

I would not pay an extra 1k for the lwrc.

I like the standard accessories on the LWRC M6A2. If I were to make those changes to the 6933 it would bring the price difference to ~$500., so would you pay $500 more for the piston?

I honestly don't know. I really like my 6933 - and to be honest, i'd do it all over again. I just don't know that i'm that sold on the piston uppers yet - especially when they cost so much more. DI has been working for a long long time.

Since i already have a 6933 the only other gun lwrc i might consider is the 8" 6.8 - that thing looks bad ass but i would not get a 5.56 that short.

Good luck in your decision - make sure you post pics when you get it.

I'm inclined to side with G4F.

What I might consider is an adjustable gas block like the Noveske Switchblock, to limit that overgas when you put a can on.

The pistons typically are best suited to suppressed, short barreled, full auto fire. And even then, I'm not so sure they're that much better than a DI setup with the gas flow appropriately scaled back.

While I can't say anything regarding the differences between the Colt and LWRC, I DO have an LWRC M6A2 (16"), and it's been absolutely wonderful. Shoots very well, very easy to clean, stays cool....the only negative MIGHT be that it's a little heavier than the DI guns...but not very much.
