Re: big run on muzzle crowning
I think Oprah had a dentist on the show that recommended it -- and then confusion ensued.

Three things.
1. You must be doing some good work for folks.
2. Your prices are good.
3. Turn around time must be fast.
Overall you must be keeping your customers happy with good service. You must have done some work for the "right" person or two and they have spread the word around to their friends about your shop.
Sounds like you are doing things right."Disperse you Rebels! Damn you! Throw down your Arms and Disperse!" British Major Pitcairn at Lexington April 19, 1775

Re: big run on muzzle crowning
we have a small metal fab/welding shop in montoursville (JZR welding). the most we do with firearms is polishing, some engraving, and the crowning. the crowning i was doing while you wait. but if i get another run like that, i think there will be a waiting list.

As a 1911 aficionado.... there is nothing that looks more artistic than a well crowned barrel.

Re: big run on muzzle crowning
You could retire just re crowning CZ-82's. Looks like I will be breaking out the compound, oil, and ball bearing/brass ball/cutter to give mine any semblance of a decent crown. It's not just mishandling damage; the actual turning at the muzzle looked like it was done with a wobbly dull rasp.

Re: big run on muzzle crowning
that is what most of ones i just did looked like, and a few were that the owner cut their barrels down to 16" and wanted an 11 degree crown.
and i don't know about retiring doing crown work. i'm not sure what most shops charge for the job, but i charge $35.00( this include truing the muzzle, then an 11degree crown and chamfer the outside edges.) so it would take alot of firearms to retire on.Last edited by o1dakota440; February 24th, 2011 at 10:50 AM.

Re: big run on muzzle crowning
Some years ago I fell down an embankment while hunting and dinged the crown on my .270 remmington 700 ADL. It still shoots just fine but every time I look at it I cringe. I keep thinking about getting it fixed but why mess with it if it still shoots great?
