Info on Vest...
Kinda odd question but i'm looking for a good tactical vest that i can use on a rang. planing to take some training class and most of them recommend an good vest to wear. Would like first hand on which ones are good and others to avoid.
Don't know much but would like to keep this under $100 if possible but willing to spend extra for a good one.
Mostly these are for M4/ar15 and some pistol classes.
Thanks
mike

Re: Info on Vest...
Hey Mike, I'm in the same position as you. I'm looking for a vest to wear for IDPA events. Mainly for pistol shooting. But ar15 and shotgun shooting are in the near future. Any suggestions would be great.

This really doesn't fit into this section. It would be better under "General" firearm-related discussion. More people will see it there too. I'm sure someone can give you guys an insight.

Re: Info on Vest...
i got a cheapo vest from cheaper than dirt and it sucks dont buy it. however they have one now for around $50 that looks pretty ok. i also have a 5.11 vest for idpa its great! tons of pockets good firm but comfy cotton. i bought it at insite in montco for like $60. i have also seen a woolrich vest linked to the idpa site which looks really nice but costly.

Re: Info on Vest...
An IDPA vest would be different than a tactical carbine class vest.
For a pistol/carbine vest, you would want something with MOLLE straps so you can put mag pouches.
This sight has some that already have permanent attached pouches, or you can get one that you can put your own pouches on.

If you are using a vest, I would recommend using a drop leg holster for your pistol, because you will not be able to use a belt holster.ZRT -SECTOR-7

Re: Info on Vest...
Honestly, you'll find more info on chest rigs at places like the gear forum at AR15.com. But I'll give you a couple of suggestions to get you started.
For a simple but excellent (and insanely popular) chest rig, the SKD Tac Eagle Universal Chest Rig (my current favorite): $79.00 complete
http://www.skdtac.com/Eagle_Chest_Ri..._p/eag.567.htm
Next in line would be the Eagle Active Shooter chest Rig. This is similar to the rig above except that the center mag pouches have flap closures, the pistol mag pouches have individual flaps and the straps are not padded (not completely necessary anyway IMHO). $85
http://www.skdtac.com/Eagle_LE_Activ..._p/eag.670.htm
The Tactical Tailor MAV (1-piece or 2-peice) is also very popular, but it's more expensive and may have more than you need to it. - $200 complete
http://www.optactical.com/tatamove.html
HSGI makes some insane gear as well, will hold a lot more, but probably not needed for what you're going to use it for. I like all of the HSGI products, but the only one that wouldn't be too much for your intended use IMHO is the DACH: $145.00 complete
http://www.optactical.com/newstyledach.html
And for a rig on the cheap, you can't go wrong with a USGI FLC (Fighting Load Carrier) vest (make sure it's actual USGI though, quality can be suspect on imports/knock-offs). You can find these on Ebay along with the pouches (or add whatever one's you want): $15-20 + pouches
http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.htm...=270564&page=1
Companies that make good rigs:
HSGI
Tactical Tailor
Eagle
SKD-Tac (made by Eagle for SKD)
ATS
SOE
TAG (Tactical Assault Gear)

Re: Info on Vest...
NineseveN,
Thanks for posting the links. I'm looking for an IDPA vest myself. I met a fellow shooter who's using the Woolrich Elite vest he got from eBay for around 50 bucks. Seems like a good deal.

I hear that Free Shit vests are by far the best. Very difficult to come by though.
