Default Good way to censor web use for kids

I seen the post about wegmans censoring firearm sites and a light went off,

For you family guys who have kids and want a little peace of mind, here's a tool for ya's
    It's called
    opendns.com

Domain Name Server acronym DNS, What it does is it converts names to numbers. Webs sites are really numbers, like yahoo.com is really http://206.190.36.45 the name is a little easier to remember wouldn't ya say?

If I do something for a buddy with young kids i recommend this, It take no extra resources because you're going to a dns server anyway. very easy to setup, the website give all the direction you would need..

I last word of caution, if you're shaky on this find a buddy that can help, because you WILL LOSE YOUR INTERNET if you put the wrong settings in

Here's a screen shot of selectable options..

Forgot to mention it's free for Home use

why would i block gun sites from my house? Or censor anything at all from my house for that matter?

Because you have young kids in the house and don't want them surfing to the porn sites when you're not looking over their shoulder? Just one reason, I'm sure there's plenty of other reasons someone might want to restrict what people can access through their web access.

I think OP's intent was to show how networks can be filtered, and provide some examples of the categories that can be filtered. I like the description for the "High" setting...

"Protects against...general time wasters" ....that made me lol.

Actually I was just throwing this out there as another safe guard for parents. Just 1 more layer to protect the kids in the house from stuff you don't want them to see.. that's all

Like you said about filtering, A light bulb just lit up in my head, that's all

I guess just consider this as a PSA

If you have kids that know computers, then you'd probably also have to implement a GPO to prevent them from changing their DNS servers.
Rules are written in the stone,
Break the rules and you get no bones,
all you get is ridicule, laughter,
and a trip to the house of pain.

That probably works as good as gun laws. I have no idea really, but looks like some feel good nonsense, it's got German Youth as a category, that doesn't inspire confidence.
