    Default Obama's School Address

The White House has released the text of the speech. Read it for yourself, and try to forget that it's The Boy King speaking. In my opinion, there's nothing bad here. In fact, I'd say it's a wholly positive speech. Yes, it's an address from a politician, but there's nothing that distinguishes it from any address that any other politician might make in a similar circumstance.

I think we can file this controversy under "T", for "Tempest in a Teapot".

Unfortunately, give the track record of this administration already, I'm not even confident that the speech will be delivered exactly as transcripted, thus I will stand by my decision to have my son view the speech with me after I view it myself, rather than in the classroom.

That's definitely a valid concern given his track record. Still, if the speech is materially the same despite some trivial differences, I'll call it a net gain.

I still disagree. The fact that it took the uproar that occurred to get the speech we see now, is not a "win". Why couldn't what we see now have been the original content? THAT would have been a "win".

Thats an understatement. This administration have become professionals at getting away with bait and switch tactics.

Do we know that it wasn't? I haven't been following this all that closely, so I admit to a certain amount of ignorance on the matter.

My understanding is that the original content and (quickly pulled from the net) accompanying curriculum materials focused more on encouraging students to decide what they could do to "help Obama". I don't care who the President is, I don't want my kid feeling responsible to any leader, but to the concepts that were used as a foundation for our society, as unrecognizable as they often are these days.

You know, I vaguely recall that. If that was actually the case, your skepticism is well-founded. I'd feel just the same way.

That is a long speech, particularly the way Obama speaks.
