My First M1A-A1
I bought it last night at Backwoods Outfitters in Columbia, PA. I was just leaving the shop, and they stopped me to check out the rifle (They were unpacking the day's shipments).
I just had to have it.

Re: My First M1A-A1
Yea scout 18"
Since this post, I have been trying to figure out which way I want to go with this. I mean, its sweet as hell as it, but I am an EBR kinda guy. I know its the 18" and all, but I am half tempted to try to make it some sort of long range deal..
I couldn't figure out which one you had. I think I heard you or Jon say it was previously a SOCOM config? What length was it? I don't know much about the configs of these yet, I was almost thinking it was a 16"?
PS> I am short an AR-15 now due to this M1A :*(Last edited by Fr0sty; November 22nd, 2008 at 09:20 AM.

Re: My First M1A-A1
mine was/is a socom2.
i just removed all the rails(they have some sort of quad rial deally), replaced the rear apt with a smaller dia version, put a normal hand guard on it and added the front sling swivel. waiting on the sling to show up.
barrel always has been 16".
those fir....errha....targets, yeah targets won't stand a chance now....it's only metal, we can out think it....

Re: My First M1A-A1
Thanks all,
I'm stoked I got another project rifle. The only downside is that these seem to be a pretty pricey toy. One of the items I sold/traded to pick this thing up was a S&W M&P15 (The one I had at the range last weekend). That and one of my tricked 10/22s.
Brian, I'm still sore about the FAL with a Nikon 4x14x50mm losing to the AK UNDERFOLDER w/ open sights @ 50yds heh..
I just hope this M1A burns the eyebrows like yours. That thing was just EVIL...

Nice gun! I've been thinking alot lately about a 7.62. I love the Springfield
M1A look, especially the Scout Squad. Let me know how it shoots, you may be able to influence me in the right direction.
