An absolutely unbelievable thing occured today...

I called Verizon tech support about my DSL and spoke with two, YES TWO, actual non-broken-English speaking, North American reps!!!!!!!!

Not a hint of any foreign accent at all and the 2nd girl (a level 3 tech support specialist) told me she was actually in Ontario, Canada.

Unfortunately she was the bearer of bad news. I wanted to upgrade to 7.1 mbps DSL speed and placed the order last week. It was supposed to kick in tomorrow.

But I got a voicemail earlier saying there was an error on the line and it would not happen.

So I called them, pressed the option for pending orders and the first English speaking woman came on, checked a few things then said to hold for a tech person and that's when the Canadian girl came on.

She explained the problem is that there is an old load coil on the line somewhere between my house and the central office that is blocking the DSL signal strength. So at this time, I am stuck with 3.1 mbps speed, which I have had for several years.

If they try and remove the coil, it may knock out my dial tone completely, so they have determined that it must stay.

My only hope is that if they do any updating and re-wiring work in the area.
She said she couldn't tell exactly where this load coil is on the line (not that I would use it for target practice or anything)

Also, am still waiting for FIOS internet and TV to come to my neighborhood

Anyway, it was actually a little bit of a pleasure talking with these folks today as far as being able to understand them and talking with someone who actually knew what exactly was going on.

odd..I called a few places last week for a hotel and every single person I called was from Canada...

yeah, they're in Canada and speak good English, but it's still jobs leaving the US.
