Do you ALWAYS clean a new gun before firing it for the fiirst time?
Do you ALWAYS clean a new gun before firing for the first time?
I find that aside from insuring no blockage of dirt, grease, etc., that it helps me to familiarize myself with the weapon and gives me a little more peace of mind when taking that first exploratory shot.

Sure. Break down, clean, reassemble, dry fire.

Yes, whether it is new or used. Most new guns come with packing lube, or grease. This is for rust prevention, and preservation, not lube for operation. Breakdown, clean, and LUBE with a good gun oil.

Yes - strip, clean, re-assemble. Every time.

Yes....I usually take it to my LGS to be cleaned after I break them down to familiarize myself with the new weapon.

As others have said, yes. For both the cleaning and lubricating aspect as well as familiarity. If there is a malfunction of some sort, I don't want to learn how the gun works while it is malfunctioned, possibly with a round in it.

If its a glock, ill just take down and inspect, throw it back together and shoot it then clean and reinspect (usually helps loosen up some of that anti sieze they pack in there)...if a little anti sieze makes the gun not function, well truth is i dont want that gun in my collection of SD weapons anyway
other guns, i will usually clean and lube prior to shooting, but always inspectLast edited by Svickstc; December 12th, 2013 at 02:11 PM.
