SGL 300 now open
just thought i'd give everyone a head's up. the pistol range is much better now; instead of walking across a grassy field, which always ends up muddy, there is now a gravelly path to walk on. there's only one table now, though, so you have to share. the rifle range also has a path to walk on, too, so no more running across mud and falling into holes and sprained ankles. the shotgun range is pretty much the same. i'll put up pics when i get a chance.

Re: SGL 300 now open
Archibald/Gouldsboro range. It's right off of exit 4 on Rt.6E from 81. I didn't even know it was closed (although I have noticed some weird activity with the right 4-5 backstops, they were down, then up, then down again..).
I've been kinda disappointed with the pistol range. It's not the range itself, but the fact that everyone leaves their torn to shreds targets up on the backboards. The SGL ranges are a free service provided to us, and everyone that uses it should at least have the decency to throw out their used targets if they don't want to take them home."Twice today have I been told that my outfit does not match my gun..."

I never saw it closed down, but when I was up there a couple of weeks ago it definitely looked better than it used too. I did not see any garbage can over in the shotgun section, tho. I always forget how much colder it is up there than in downtown. I had two of my buddies and their kids with me and the kids didn't last more than 15 minutes.

Is that the one at the top of the hill near the old FAA VOR site? I'll have to get up there...mom-in-law lives at the bottom of the hill, and a good friend is an archbald cop with some fun toys...I'm in the city, so nothing down here unless I go downtown and shoot inside...

Re: SGL 300 now open
How do you get to this range from south Scranton (near 81 and the Scranton Expressway)? I just picked up my first gun today and I'd love to hit up a range before classes start again.

Get on 81N towards Binghamton. Take the exit for Rt6E (it's by the intersection of 81 and 380). Once on RT6E, take exit 4 (Salem Road). At the end of the exit, make a right at the stop sign. In about a mile up the hill, you'll see it on your right (there's a big sign for PA Shooting Range).
I'm thinking of heading out there tomorrow for some trap shooting and handgun target shooting. PM me or whatever and let me know when you're heading down - perhaps we can meet up at some point."Twice today have I been told that my outfit does not match my gun..."

Re: SGL 300 now open
I definitely won't be up there tomorrow, despite how fun the roads are to drive currently. Hopefully when the weather clears up. Thanks for the directions though!
