AND what is the sidearm and holster? A makarov? in a U.M nylon? not quite std. issued for NYPD.

First thing I noticed was the lack of authenticity in the photo.

Wrinkled, dirty, not matched and incorrectly donned uniform. Old crappy non-retention holster. Non-duty belt. ETC

Obviously a staged photo. Maybe not for the purpose of the use linked to from here, but 100% phony pic.

I actually wasn't entirely buying it, either, but I don't see anyone else wearing what looks likes a costume.

Snopes was no help, so who knows? And no, not everyone spends thirty minutes a day on their uniforms. Some of Philly's units (nearest comparison) go pretty non-standard, like the Crime Scene Unit, for example.

Anyway, the real thing that I reacted to wasn't the picture so much as it was the reaction on the part of the poster in the thread, thus my comment:
