Flashlights and pistols
I am getting a Glock for home security. Would you all suggest paying the big bucks for a light that slides right onto the pistol or would a good bright flashlight be better even if you have to hold it. Thanks guys, Bud

2 things.
You can get a gun for home defense in MD?
Spend the money on a shotgun since you wont be able to carry the handgun even if you can keep it for home defense.

Re: Flahlights and pistols
I use a separate small flashlight. They are cheaper and have other general uses around the house. I tried to get the brightest ones I could without going overboard. You can get a 45 Lumen light at Walmart for less than $20. I got a 114 Lumen light from Galls for $40. When needed it will truly light up the bad guys.
When carrying the separate flashlight has the advantage of being able to illuminate a situation without drawing the pistol.
My shoulder weapon for home defense has a small flashlight mounted on it. A shoulder weapon does not leave a free hand.

I would recommend a Surefire G2 Nitrolon; this will set you back about $36 dollars. Please consider taking a pistol fundamentals course and then learn about some techniques for employing a light in your support hand.
