    Default New Boots

I went by Cabela's today to look into getting new work boots. They were having a sale that went "screw looking at boots, you need a new pistol". So, not being one to pass up a sale I went and bought a Taurus 1911 in Stainless Steel. IT'S NIIIIIICE!!!!

    Couple of questions:
Magazines, are they all the same for all 1911's ? I need to have more than the two it came with.
Grip screws: Are they all the same thread? I tried to change the grips from the Rosewood units that were on it to the black plastic ones that come in the box (spares). Wife likes the black ones better. Anyway, the grip screws are allen head and wimpy metal. Yup, I stripped the heads out and need to replace the screws.
I'm asking all the questions now because I am going to the SAR show in York Saturday and want to have the info so I know what to look for. Thanks for any input.
Have a great day tomorrow, Bob

Any magazines designated for a Government size 1911 will work. I recommend Wilson Combat 47D's.

Standard 1911 grip screws will work. No need to tighten them to the point of stripping out the heads, just snug is fine!

    ETA: Where are the pics?!?!?!

just like 1911's keep in mind that all 1911 mags aren't created equal, the really cheap gov't ones may not work correctly
The first vehicles normally on the scene of a crime are ambulances and police cruisers. If you are armed you have a chance to decide who gets transported in which vehicle, if you are not armed then that decision is made for you.

Be prepared, because someone else already is and no one knows their intent except them.

    Congrats on your new purchase.

Ed Brown mags are fantastic for 1911's.
They are not cheap, but are very solid (all SS with SS followers)
You can get 7 or 8 rounders.
I like the 8 rounders myself.

I have a feeling that there are GI and GI knockoffs. I have a pile of GI mags that came in 1950s vintage waxed paper and they are built like mack trucks. Solid and indestructable. Never had a feeding problem with them. However, I've seen newer mags that purport to be GI and are crap. They probably are just crap mags with the appropriate numbers stamped on the bottom.

Whatever mag you choose, make sure that it works reliably before you carry it on a daily baisis.

I bought some of the cheap ($7) GI type mags and they seemed to function ok but did not last long before they started to fall apart.

Checkmate makes a great 1911 mag. I own 7 or 8 and they perform flawlessly.
