Buying a used...new to me car...maybe
OK, Just wondering if anyone knows anything about Jaguars? Im looking at getting a Jag and have narrowed down my options to two models. If anyone has any exp. with these let me know what you think. I really cant find any other info on them. I know Jag's quaility has come up ALOT since the late 80's early 90's, JD power actually has them rated just slightly higher than Mercedes in their past 4 model years.

While their quality may have gone up, they still remain expensive to maintain. I'd say that Jags are good cars to lease, but maybe not to own. Resale in not good at all, but if you buy used, that's not as much of an issue.
You can never have enough horsepower or ammunition.

After what I've been through, seen, and heard about Jags...
No thanks. I'd rather have a Hyundai.
A family member has a newer one, an AWD model. The transmission has quit twice in 70,000 miles. She hates the thing.

Go to AutoZone and price brake pads and rotors. Maybe an alternator or a starter. Check the prices on things that wear out or go bad.
That will tell you how much this thing will cost over the next five years...

Yes VERY unwise purchase.....
UNLESS you have money you have no need for anymore, in which case, GIMME SOME!!!
TERRIBLE RESALE VALUE... THEY DEPRECIATE FAR TOO QUICKLY....My father has owned 2 sold both of them... I personally HATE jag..."Do not use K-9 advantix on cats"

I'm a Jaguar Master Tech, haven't recertified since 98 but I can tell you this, I would not buy one. Too expensive to maintain. DEFINITELY DO NOT EVER buy a Land Rover product. There is a reason the British do not have landfill issues. They 'badge' all their trash as 'Land Rover' and ship it to us. JUNK, GARBAGE, RUBBISH...... simply put, "trash".
LAnd Rover actually breaks down to mean: Leaking
And

Dependable
Radically
Over
Valued
European
Rubbish

Actually Jaguar has come a loooong way since even the '90s. There pretty reliable, But they are extremely expensive to maintain. Especially the R models.
But to answer your question I would go with the XJR over the S-TypeR hands down. Much better platform IMO, and better quality of materials aswell.
That classic Jaguar look and feel the way Sir William Lyon intended.
Nothing drives or feels like a Jaguar short of a Bentley. They have their own unique way about them similar to an Audi but 180* in the other direction.
Just watch out for Water pumps, and Transmissions.
If you can afford the maintainence and it comes with a factory certified warranty, buy it you'll love it.

Lots of Jags are coming off of leases and showing up on used cars lots.If anyone is familiar to the Pittsburgh area Sawmill Run/51 and West Liberty Ave have a bunch of buy here-pay here lots that sell the worst worn out and damaged trash available.I'm seeing many Jags on these lots and would run away from them at all costs.Same goes for Land Rovers,BMWs,Audis, etc.Like the above poster said the price might seem good but those hidden repair bills will bankrupt you. These cars are on these type of used car lots for a reason.Don't say you weren't warned.tom.
