S&W 686 vs. 357 mag 14.0 grain 2400, 158 XPT/HP
Can this gun handle this load with no problems?

That's the load shown by Alliant Powders (used to be Hercules) and the 686 is strong enough to handling this load. I just would not continually shoot it. Load some up, shoot them, see where they impact and remember that. Then go back to shooting lighter loads for practice (trigger squeeze, sight alignment, etc.)

I went today, and shot a few different loads, including these mentioned above. Still, the factory personal defense rounds I tried still had more kick than the loads I made with the 14 grs of 2400...
