Default El Cheapo Scope set up for Mosin Nagant?

What would my best bet be for $150 max?
I have an M38 is very good condition and want to turn it into a scout sniper.
The main use would be for various game hunting, mainly deer and exploding whistle pigs.

I know alot of people say to use the POSP set up, but what does that even mean? And don't I need to get a new bolt too?

Realistically I'd like the rifle to be able to reach out and touch targets probably in the 200 yard range. The terrain here is pretty mountainous and I wouldnt be rolling out much further than that.

Found this bad boy and it seems like the way to go, and cheaper than the POSP/original scout sniper set ups from russia.

I figure I can get the S&K mounting kit and a decent magnification LER scope for all under $150.

Does anyone have an experience in this?

I did the same thing with an S&K mount for my mauser (before I sold it to a friend) and loved it. The NCStar 2-7x LER scope that came from the same place I got the mount from worked well. I was shocked what I could do with the mauser, surplus ammo, and a trigger upgrade.

How much did the whole set up run you?

Do you think the 2-7x scope is enough magnification for hunting?

I'm not a hunter, but I was able to keep the rifle grouping under 2" at 100 yards when I did my work. I can't tell you how good it is in low light or trying to discern leaf-colored-deer from leaves.

NC star mount is junk... Scope isnt bad, but the mount is made from what we in the paintball world call "Velveeta grade" aluminum. Screws are crap too, get good stainless if you want to try it, or end up drilling bits out to try and save the leaf mount.

Im trying out a suggestion from a few other places, and took off the stock sight block, and then mounting a leapers 22/airgun offset mount with 1" rings.

PLus side of that mount is that you can get a better cheek weld to the stock. Probably sturdier than the NC star one as well. I have to say, those guys are pretty nice about product support and criticism.

Well the mount I'm going to be getting is from S&K, not ncstar.
NCstar just seems to be a popular LER scope for cheapness and reliability.

I'm trying to keep this project under 150 and getting a brand name scope would put me at 3 or 4 times my budget.

Under 150? Easy. Like I said, skip the weird mount all together. Punch out the 2 pins on the sight block. Slide the sight forward, off the dovetail.

Drop scope rings of your choice (medium rise for 40mm minimum) made to fit a 3/8" dovetail. Attache scope of your choice that has a long enough eye relief, like a pistol scope.

might want to remove the front sight as well, so you dont see it in the scope.

I used an inexpensive pair of weaver mounts to put a scope on mine last night, and will test it out at the range probably next week.

Wouldn't that require a bent bolt handle?

The reason I like the s&k with the LER is because its going to give me around 4x magnification and thats all I need for deer hunting out here.
The build also doesnt require anything special except swapping out the rear sight.
