One of my Christmas presents is a translation of an old Japanese book on swordsmanship and tactics. An interesting quote from the book is "The final state of any discipline is where your forget what you have learned, discard your mind, and accomplish whatever you set out to do without being aware of it yourself."

Very true. In pistol shooting, I don't think about the sight or trigger or target, I just shoot and put holes in the target where they are supposed to be (or nearly so).

The same is true in any activity. Driving, flying, golf, typing, knitting, music . . . anything.

If you have to think about what you are doing, you aren't good yet.
