When the balloon goes up... tales of merit.
Recent threads about revolution and stockpiling ammo/supplies for "when the balloon goes up" reminded me of several great books I've read concerning survival after apocalyptic events... so, since I'm a fan of such stories, I thought I'd list a book or two that I found very affecting and which influenced my thought processes about events such as these... and I encourage others to chime in with their favorites.
Alas, Babylon! (Pat Frank)
Post-nuclear scenario somewhere in Florida... considered a classic, but now often forgotten or ignored by the schools in favor of more gloom-and-doom "nobody could possibly survive" defeatism, such as On The Beach or The Day After. A great read, notable for its refreshing and inspiring outlook that survival is possible by those with the will and the skill... along with several interesting tips and techniques.

The Warwolf (Hermann Löns)
German literature classic Der Wehrwolf. Translated historical novel about a North German farming community banding together and fighting, guerrilla style, in protection of home and community during the harrowing times of the Thirty Years War (1618-1648). An enthralling and inspirational tale, both heart-warming and heart-wrenching.

Sounds good, I've been hankering for a good read.
Any chance of these books appearing on Opera's Book Club? LOL

Lights Out is good one about EMP. It's was written by Halffast from Frugal Squirrels. It's available online, and must be searched for it.
Unintended Consequences by John Ross is another classic and is available from Amazon. If you don't know who your state legislators are go here:
