Default On teh subject of magazines

I found on an AK I prefer (size and weight) of 20 round magazines over the standard 30. Also keeps me in check when shooting at the range how much I am spending that day.

What do you guys think? Is it worth having the 30 rounders over the 20 rounders? Im going to have to stock up on some for any future classes.

If you prefer 20rnd, or less, mags for range time - then more power to you.. I would have a batch of 30rd mags though for a SHTF situation. Usually are the same price or less than 20rnd mags, and mag pouches are usually fitted for 30rnd mags.

I use 20rd mags at the range. I keep 30rd mags at home for when the SHTF. Unless your dumping full mags and have money to burn I'd stay with the 20.

Do you think that practicing my reloads with 20rounders will effect when i have 30's in play. I plan on getting some mag pouches made up (atomic dog) to fit for a pretty slim setup.

You can always practice with your 30rd mags with 20, 10 or even 5 rounds in them.

I would have both. The hungarian 20rds are GREAT mags. Depending on how your practicing your reloads, I don't see too much of an issue developing at all.

On my AR I usually use 30 round magazines because they're easier to grip while reloading, but I usually only load as many as I am planning on shooting..somewhere between 6 and 10 rounds. I do also use 20 rounders, mostly if I am shooting from a bench or supported.

The rifle just feels more ballanced with the twenty.
One box of ammo fills one magazine.

I also say both, they are fairly cheap mags at about $15 each.
I'd have four or five 30s at least and however many 20s you want.
And yes I have both and I really like the 20s for the range, they don't get in the way if you want to sit at the bench. I also have some 40s and a couple drums just in case the zombies come.

When i bought my MAK90 NIB back in 1993 it came with three 5 round mags in the box, i looked at them and thought those goofy Chinese dudes must be crazy, then my first time at the range with it sighting it in from the bench , i realized those Chinese dudes are really really smart.

I dont know about 20 rounders but 5 rounders and 30 rounders are great, imo a AK should be shot with 30 rounders, better feel and balance.
