Default Gun used to kill Philly officer stolen

PERRY COUNTY, Pa. -- A Perry County man has been sentenced to 2 1/2 years in prison for trading a stolen handgun for drugs.

Levi Swigart, 19, stole the revolver from his mother in January and traded it for crack cocaine, police said.

The gun was used in a bank robbery in May in Philadelphia.

Philadelphia police Officer Stephen Liczbinski was killed in that incident.

The antis can say all they want about how new laws like the 72 hour stolen gun law will help save lives, but until they start actually sentencing these criminals, nothing will ever change. 2 1/2 years? He should have gotten a mandatory 5 year sentence for the use of a firearm in a crime (buying drugs), and at the very least, an accessory to murder charge. I personally think that shit-bags like this should get the same murder charges filed against them and should sit in the big chair with 10,000 volts running through them.
All the gun laws in the world won't do a thing if the liberal judicial system keeps letting these fuckers on the streets.

The electric chair only uses 2,000 volts. I would rather he rot in prison. It really is worst than death.

From what I hear, they're more of a 1/2-star motel with a large information database for aspiring criminals. Except they cost more to keep running.

Prision needs to be feared more than it is...for a culture that uses violence to intimidate others and get what they want, perhaps they should be rationed with in terms they better understand.

Prison is better then home for a lot of these people!!! they do nothing, live in clean comfort, have lots of "group time" , free food, free cable, free clothing, drugs, booze, smokes... They don't mind going to prison, its like a party!

He got 2 1/2 years for stealing a gun? that seems excessive... good thing he'll only serve 6 months of it and then be back out
The first vehicles normally on the scene of a crime are ambulances and police cruisers. If you are armed you have a chance to decide who gets transported in which vehicle, if you are not armed then that decision is made for you.

Be prepared, because someone else already is and no one knows their intent except them.

Teen gets prison for trading gun for drugs

HARRISBURG, Pa. — A Harrisburg-area teen has been sentenced to 2 1/2 years in prison for trading a stolen handgun for crack cocaine.

The gun sold by 19-year-old Levi Swigart last January turned up in a May bank robbery in which a Philadelphia police officer was killed.

Police say the Duncannon teen had stolen the revolver from his mother.

Swigart pleaded guilty in August to using a firearm in a cocaine transaction. He offered a tearful apology at his sentencing Wednesday and says he'll stay away from drugs.

Swigart faced a 5-year mandatory minimum sentence, but authorities said his age, lack of a significant criminal history and cooperation in the investigation warranted a shorter sentence.

A remorseful speech and a few tears is worth 2 1/2 year reduction of sentence, plus no charges for theft, illegal transfer of firearms, and numerous others.

If the city could have only had a mandatory lost or stolen firearm law this crime would have been stopped (not really) well they least they could have made some money from or sentence his of mother to jail.

So in this case of stolen firearm the judge gave a slap on the wrist, nice message to other criminal’s judge.

Note in this animal abuse story the judge thought the plea barging deal was too lenient for the crime and made it stiffer sentence of 2 years to send a message that animal abuse will not be tolerated.

CARMEL, N.Y. - A man who admitted breaking a puppy's jaw has been sentenced to two years in prison and ordered never to keep any pets.

Putnam County Judge James Rooney imposed the sentence on 20-year-old Gerald Barrett of Lake Carmel after rejecting a more lenient plea bargain.

Barrett admitted in October that he punched his ex-girlfriend's 4-month-old pit bull, Cali, and then called the young woman from jail despite an order of protection. He pleaded guilty to animal cruelty and contempt.

Prosecutors had agreed to recommend six months in jail but Judge Rooney said Dec. 4 that he found the pre-sentencing report disturbing. He told Barrett he could withdraw the plea, but he did not.

Wednesday's sentence includes a ban on keeping any animals other than farm animals.
Didn't mean to hijack the thread with a dog story, just using it as example that the judge is part of the slap on the wrist PROBLEM. The judges can stop this catch and release problem created by lenient plea bargain deals of existing firearm laws.

Read the PA problem about NOT aggressively enforcing existing firearm laws with the real numbers showing the lack of enforcement.

But passing more laws that only inconvenience law abiding people should be enough to stop these criminals from commiting crimes. Its not up to the state to punish people for breaking existing laws. Its their job to pass more laws that they wont enforce. Damn it people havent you heard of the honor system? They trust you not to break the law but if you do more than 20 or 30 times youll have to spend the next 6 or 8 months in prison.

Did anybody miss the sarcasm there? Politicians and judges make me want to vomit.
