Hard Chrome an XD9...
OK, I know this will draw some laughs, but I'm in a good mood anyway.
I want to have my subcompact XD9 hard chromed.
Anyone here ever do that? Who do you recommend?
I am not talking about just the slide; I would like to have every metal part in the pistol hard chromed.
Thanks!~ Luke... Come to the dark side... We have cookies! ~

From what I hear this finish is one of the best on the market. Most folks tell me that it's almost indestructible.
My next toy is gonna be a STI Trojan in 9mm for league shoots. i will put 1,000 rounds or so through it....then it's going off for this plating. It's tough as nails and resists holster wear.

Re: Hard Chrome an XD9...
Most people wouldnt know a hard chromed handgun if they owned one.
Hard chrome isnt "bumper chrome" from a car or truck.
Hard chrome comes in satin or matte finish and dosent look much different than matte stainless.
more than a few people come into our shop every year and think they have a late 1950's Colt in stainless.....when in fact they have a factory nickel plated gun.
No 'bling" in hard chrome.

Re: Hard Chrome an XD9...
Buckmark is right. You are all showing your newbness.
Hard chrome takes the form of the finish underneath.....typically a matte silver that looks like brushed stainless......but with a rockwell hardness of around 70.
Canyon Creek does nice work.

Re: Hard Chrome an XD9...
Thanks Buckmark & Lycan. I really was not understanding the jokes until I read what you two posted.
Here is a shot of my 2011 built by EGW on an STI frame. It is hard chromed and I love the finish. Haven't even shot the dang thing yet. Lycanthrope gave me advice and listened to me whine for almost a year so I promised the kid he would be the first to shoot it.
Cycling the slide does not feel as "smooth" as cycling the slide on my Stainless Steel Wilson, but Lycan explained that to me a while back.
If I understand the properties of hard chrome correctly, it's almost guaranteed not to rust, bust or collect dust.
I am pursuing the possibilities of having my XD9 hard chromed, and will probably pursue some additional serrations (or whatever) to the slide first.
