What's it like being a mod/admin?
I would imagine that it would be very hard to be a mod, especially on this forum. There are a lot of hard-headed people here.
What's it like? You have the tough job of keeping the quality of this forum up to par. It seems like there's always someone who has bitterness toward you all.
Then there's also the power that you hold to ban anyone who breaks the rules. What's it like to ban someone? Just another part of the job?
In conclusion, I wanted to say thank you for everything you do for this forum. You keep this forum a great place to visit.
MODS=GODS
PS. I assumed this would be the best place for this thread. If I assumed wrongly, please move it.

7:30 am: Wake up. Feed little furry death machines (cats). Check e mail over a bowl of cereal.
7:40 am: Note reported PAFOA posts about people bumping in the classifieds before 3 days.......hope Rocketfoot sees it.
7:41 am: Rocketfoot issues infraction.
8:00 am-8:45am: Shower, shave and read latest Midway catalog or gunsmithing book over the morning constitutional.
9:00 am: Get to work.
9:00 am-11:10 am: Work dispersed with checking e mail.
11:11 am: Answer question about AR15 twist rate.
11:16 am: Answer 1911 question.
11:20 am: Laugh at Motivational Poster thread and wonder what happened to the lol cat thread.
12:00 am: Take a 3 mile walk for lunch.
1:00 pm: Infract someone for racial comment or personal attacks.
1:00 pm - 3:00 pm: Think there has to be a better way to make a living than work (but winning the lottery isn't panning out and selling crack seems kinda immoral).
3:02 pm: Receive irate PM from infracted/banned user arguing that "You are a POS sack of (insert racial slur here) $^&t and I'd kick your a$$" is not a personal attack.
3:04 pm: Respectfully disagree.
3:16 pm: Get nasty PM from user calling you a "POS sack of $^*&" and asks for your home phone number to "Talk about it". User asks for address to moderator home.
3:17 pm: Pour another cup of coffee and decide to quit wasting bandwidth with user.
3:18 pm: Laugh at how serious some people take the internet.
3:19 pm: Laugh at surprises user would have showing up at moderator home. Glad he doesn't show anyhow.
3:20 pm -5:00 pm: More work.
5:30 pm: Run 3 miles.
6:30 pm: Eat dinner.
7:00 pm - 9:00 pm: Do some home repairs/dry fire/shooting/general home maintenance/phone calls.
9:00 pm - 11:00 pm: Crack homebrew and surf forum some more. Surf ebay. Surf facebook.
12:50 am: Go to bed with the better half.
1:00 am: Get lucky (80%)/get denied (20%)
1:30 am: Think of ways to bring the ratio up to 90/10.....fail....too expensive.
Repeat for the other five weekdays........

Re: What's it like being a mod/admin?
overall, its both amusing, fun, and an unmitigated PITA (and aside from beer and running, pretty much what lycan posted)
I'm a mod here, and on another forum... on the other forum I've been a mod there for 11years or so... and that place is a LOT rougher than here... I remember times when we'd spend HOURS straight cleaning up troll messes, to the point where we'd just FLUSH the whole boards and start over.
any of you folks who think we're harsh, or some of the posters are harsh, are lucky this place is so polite, at my other mod job you'd be crying like a little girl, and emailing AOL cuz someone was mean to you on the internet. (seriously, i ahd a user say he was reporting me to AOL for banning him.... like AOL is "the internet)
we aren't gods, just folks, generally just like you (not like the banned folks of course) who have to try and balance common sense, with peoples text postings (sometimes incomprehensible postings), and try hard to cross check everything against the rules we all have to follow.
its the internet, so I dont take it seriously, so folks need not to take it personal when we do the job.
also, here, i got a free tshirt... at my other mod job, I get free SUPPRESSORS
so yeah.. being a mod is a PITALast edited by JayBell; June 3rd, 2009 at 01:47 AM.
