Northampton County's sheriff and his second in command are leaving the department.
Sheriff Jeffrey Hawbecker submitted his letter of resignation today, said County Executive John Stoffa. Hawbecker's last day is Oct. 30.
Stoffa said Hawbecker served as sheriff for 11 years and is an "honest upstanding citizen."
Hawbecker did not return a phone call asking about his retirement.

The real interesting thing is that the under sheriff is leaving with him, that seems to indicate that it may be more than personal reasons.

Everybody I know says he is a great guy. And asked why I bothered to use a corp for NFA. This is why.

Complete equality isn't compatible with democracy, but it is agreeable to totalitarianism. After all the only way to ensure the equality of the slothful, the inept and the immoral is to suppress everyone else. - Iain Benson

That's right, and now he won't be there to do it anymore. Setting up a corporation protects the actors in the corporation from having to worry about the politics of the Sheriff or local PD Chief with respect to NFA signoffs.
As for the new Sheriff, whether or not he/she will be as sympathetic to "the cause" is in question.Last edited by ChamberedRound; September 2nd, 2009 at 09:51 AM.

Something strange is going on with these two sheriffs leaving abruptly.

That's what I was getting at. He seemed great from what I have heard. Now - is there something F-d up that they are leaving? Will it affect you if there is an investigation? Will the next Sheriff be a shithead and decide to misuse your records? Or forward them to some politician or organization?
The Sheriff is not a man, it's an office.

Re: Northampton County Sheriff Jeffrey Hawbecker leaving post.
The Express Times article that the OP is referencing, was printed in full in Tuesday's issue (9/1/09) of the newspaper. A quote from the article states:
"Hawbecker said he is 65 years old and ready to retire, according to Stoffa(John Stoffa is Northampton County Executive). Chief Deputy Thomas Marchetti(70), who worked with Hawbecker when they were both state troopers, is also leaving, Stoffa said.
"They had always agreed they would leave together," Stoffa said.
Both of these gentlemen were "cause friendly" in my book and they will leave behind big shoes to fill.

My dog "Ruger" is worried about the economy because Alpo is up to $3.00 a can. That's almost $21.00 in dog money.
Pray for our troops....and a little extra for our snipers.
