Default I need some advice on a .45.

I need a gov't model, but I'm not sure which to buy. I don't want to buy a low end .45 on the assumption that I would upgrade it. I'd like buy one that is ready to go. Right now I'm looking at the Smith .45, but I like ParaOrd also. I'm willing to spend up to $1500.00. Any suggestions?

    Really is a pistol issue.

Don't trust ParaOrd for anything other than a strictly-range gun. Learn to live with a pistol that isn't tight enough to split the CLP atom every time it goes in and out of battery, accept that it isn't going to make one small hole for you, and have something that you can trust your life to. Too many people want to carry near-race guns, and it isn't a good proposition. The reality is that you're way ahead of the game just by installing a fitted bushing from a place like EGW and getting some night sights installed (not a pinned front, but dovetailed if the cut isn't already there).

Howdy chutes, the last time (last weekend) I was in Weaver's in Brodheadsville (rt. 715 off 209) he had an as new series 70 MK4 Colt government in the case. Beautiful gun. I believe that it was $800 and change. Not sure what they are going for, but you don't find the 70 mk4's as new very often. If you are up that way you may want to take a look. Not to far from Bucks, and there is also American a short distance away to check out. Not sure exactly what features you want, but I have never found a need to put any bells or whistles on my Colt Gov or Combat Commander. Both are series 70 mk4s.

Picked this puppy for less than 600 bucks. Taurus make an excellent .45 acp. Shoots well, looks good and I hear that Taurus has a wonderful warranty program if you should have any issues in the future.

You may wish to visit Dave Donely in Quakertown. He built my .45. You may be surprised that a spec .45 may be within your price range. You can then get the features YOU want and not what the manufacturer wants to put in the gun. Dave's site is www.gunrunner1000.com

Springfield makes a Mil Spec loaded that is priced right and has the necessary extras. SA`s customer service is second to none.

+1 for Mil spec. But only thing about MilSpec is that their sights aren't that great
But if cost is not that big of issue, I'd look in to loaded.
Its basicaly a GI with all the upgrade you ever want already on it, and you can generelly find them for around $$850~$900.

    I have ParaOrdnance PX745S.
I love the gun. I really do. Its accurate, and its very well made.
Do I trust it as carry gun?

    not really...

I had Springfield 1911GI once. I carry that weapon every day.
Lose fit, no bling, and shot each and every ammo I've fed.
that thing was reliable(like original US issued 1911 were).
