    Militia group to meet Saturday

EAST WINDSOR — A newly formed militia group is scheduled to hold a recruitment meeting in town Saturday, the second such meeting in as many months.

The first meeting of the Northern Connecticut Constitutional Militia happened Dec. 6 at Sunrise Park in Suffield, an event that police kept a close watch over.

Suffield Police Chief Michael Manzi said two of his police officers attended the event “to keep the peace” if necessary. However, Manzi said, the meeting, which attracted about 20 men and one woman, took place without incident.

“We attended to … maintain peace and there were no issues,” Manzi said.

“They are pro-NRA,” Manzi said of the National Rifle Association. “They want to make sure we have the right to bear arms. They are not extremists.”

Manzi added, “They are a bunch of fundamentalist guys who spoke about survivalist things.”

The group’s literature says it is looking to “meet like-minded people” who “support the second amendment and the U.S. Constitution.”

The second amendment says that “a well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

According to Northern Connecticut Constitutional Militia, its intent is to inform and to “improve readiness” in case terrorists attack or a global financial crisis occurs.

A well-armed citizenry is the best homeland security,” literature says, “and can better deter crime, invasion, terrorism, or tyranny.”

It says all people are welcome, “regardless of race, creed, color, tint, or hue,” or political affiliation. Those who are not welcome are those who “intend to bring harm or destruction to our fellow citizens” or “if you are a communist/socialist you are not welcome.”

Manzi said the group wasn’t “really bashing the government.” Actually, he added, its was “kind of disorganized.”

East Windsor police said they did not intend to send officers to the event Saturday, which will start at 10 a.m. at the Sportsman’s Club, 30 Apothecaries Hall Road.

Wow, a militia that isn't extremist that is not being harassed by the media or the local leo's. In the northeast, no less. That only seems to happen around Texas or the mid-west.

hey, I'm all for a "Constitutional Militia" of like minded aware citizens that are ready to stand up for the citizenry.
The last thing I want to do is hurt you... but believe me, it's on the damned list.

It looks so good in print.

If the 'Left' keeps wanting to claim that the 2ed Amendment deals with militia's then this group in Connecticut may have a good idea. Let's stop calling our clubs 'Sportsmen Club' or 'Rod and Gun Club'. We should name the club 'Sportsmen Militia' or 'Rod and Gun Militia'.

After a few years under the new names the 2ed Amendment will fit us better in the eyes of the average sheep.

It has been done before. Back in the 40's none of the men on this board would have cared to be called 'a gay young man'. But the meaning of the word 'Gay' changed. In the mid 70's the gay's proved the word Sodomites meant 'someone who forces their ways on others' originally. The church's were unable to refute it so they changed the Bible, I mean they re-translated the Bible to fix it.

Now were the Bible said Sodomites it now says Practicing Homosexuals. In a few years we can tell people our clubs always were Militia's.

But wait till the guns show up... then they go from like minded 2A supports to 'fanatical vigilantes honing their assault weapon skills at a private compound'.

The gubment killed how many people at WACO and Ruby Ridge.... for the children?

One of the most liberal guys I met (I was screwing his daughter) said this to us in the late 80s when somebody we knew from school got busted over something silly (non-firearm related if it matters) and the local and state press drug the kid through the mud with all kinds of speculation. This is long before any of this crap started going down.

Daughter, please understand. You know those two antique guns over the fireplace that don't even work? If I have a run in with the law tomorrow, the press isn't going to call me a business-owning BMW-driving CPA and familly man. They are going to call me a Vietnam vet with guns in the house and say police are unsure what I was planning and what other criminals might be involved.

Well no $hit... as it's probably a private club. If so, sending the police to that meeting to "keep the peace" would be harassment.

Interesting concept - set it up as a non-profit and get the tax breaks as well? Any CPA's care to offer input?
