Rep question. Power vs. Responsbility
I know the rep system means different things to different people. And it used to be it took along time to build any kind of rep. When I first started on here the admin had 10 ponts and everyone else was below that. Now there are members with 20-30 rep ponts to give and it really can build users reputation fast if you get some from these "heavy hitters"
Now that I'm a 24 I feel like i'm actually giving someone something worthwile (other than a positive comment). I didn't feel this when i was a 1 or 4.
My question is to the "heavy hitters" Do you feel you are more selective and responsible with your ponts now that you can really add to others rep. Or do you just do as you always have?
Personally, I rep out almost every day. There are so many insightful people on this forum and so many people really make good, valid points and offer such good information.

Oh, this is going to go well...
As a moderator, I'll withhold any further comment at this time.

Re: Rep question. Power vs. Responsbility
Teach me something, make me think, make me laugh, make me smile, hell make my day, and I'll throw (currently) +42 points your way. This is the same formula I've always used, a lot of days I rep out, some days nothing.

Re: Rep question. Power vs. Responsbility
I don't have that much rep power at this time but honestly I don't give it out "lightly". I must be somewhat liberal though because sometimes it says I have to wait so many hours to give more out and sometimes it says that I have to wait to give it to certain people again etc. I don't always leave a comment because I don't want people thinking I am kissing ass or something. Sometimes I just leave it as my way of saying I agree with their post so I am not just another person in the thread saying "oh yes I TOO AGREE!!!" if a comment really strikes me. I am rather sparing with it though. I just don't give it out for just anything. I do look to return the favor when is see someone left it for me...but won't leave it until it's absolutely warranted. I don't care if they repped me 50 times.

Re: Rep question. Power vs. Responsbility
"Rep power" is a function of the number of +rep points you are given by other members AND the number of over all posts you have. Atleast that's how I remember it being explained by one of the big wigs.

I'm with Byker. If its funny, or smart or if your icon is something really cool that I like, whatever the reason I always have a reason. Rep can just mean you've been around a long time. If your opinion is worth respecting then it probably will stand on its own no matter how many little green buddies you have next to your name.

Re: Rep question. Power vs. Responsbility
Considering how long you have been here, 9 is amazing! It took me months to get to rep 3, and months to bump up each time. Now with some of the big players it's not unheard of to jump 100-150 points from a single awesome post!
I give it like I always did, and I appreciate when I get it, no matter how I get it. Just like my sex life.

Re: Rep question. Power vs. Responsbility
Teach me something, make me laugh, make me think or do something kind for someone, I will give you rep. I get repped out everyday, because, everyday I learn something, everyday I laugh, everyday I think and everyday someone goes above and beyond their call and does something kind.
